Narrative

WHILE FLYING THE OKK STAR INTO ORD WE WERE INFORMED BY THE FLT ATTENDANTS THAT WE HAD A VERY SICK PAX ON BOARD THAT FLEW IN FROM LIMA. I SENT THE JUMPSEAT RIDER; A PLT; BACK TO GET THE INFO FROM THE FLT ATTENDANT THAT DISPATCH REQUESTED WHEN WE INFORMED THEM OF THIS SIT. MEANWHILE WE WERE APCHING BEARZ INTXN AND WE WERE AT 16000 FT AND COULD NOT GET THROUGH TO CTR TO INFORM THEM OF OUR NEED FOR PARAMEDICS. AT THE SAME TIME DISPATCH SENT US THE FREQ 128.37 FOR CTR. WE CALLED AND CALLED. NO ANSWER. THEN DISPATCH SENT US FREQ 127.8. WE CALLED AND FINALLY GOT AN ANSWER. WE WERE IFR AND IN CLOUDS AND ICING AT THIS TIME. ZAU HANDLED US AND TURNED US OVER TO APCH CTL IMMEDIATELY. WE HAD NO TIME TO INFORM HIM OF THE PARAMEDICS THAT WERE MEETING OUR FLT. WHEN THE FO CONTACTED APCH CTL HE TOLD THEM OF OUR ALT AND THEN TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PARAMEDICS. WE WERE SET UP FOR THE APCH INTO RWY 22R THE USUAL RWY FROM THE OKK ARR; BUT THEY THEN CHANGED US TO RWY 14R TO HELP US GET IN QUICKER WITH THE PARAMEDICS WAITING AT THE GATE. WE WERE KEPT HIGH AND SLOW AND THE WIND WAS 210 DEGS AT 21 KTS GUSTING TO 28 KTS. WE HAD BRIEFED THE RWY 22R APCH WITH THE LAST MIN CHANGE TO RWY 22R WE BRIEFED BUT DID NOT COMPARE THE DATA IN THE FMC. THE APCH WAS ENTERED FOR RWY 4R BY MY BRAND NEW FO RESTRICTED. NEITHER OF US NOTICED IT. I WAS DSNDING RAPIDLY TRYING TO INTERCEPT RWY 14R ON RAW DATA WITH MODERATE CHOP IN IFR CONDITIONS AND RWY WINDS 210 DEGS; 20 KTS; GUSTING TO 28 KTS. THE APCH WAS UNCOMFORTABLE FOR ME SO I ELECTED TO GO AROUND AT ABOUT 2000 FT. WE WERE THEN VECTORED FOR AN APCH TO RWY 22R. LANDED ON RWY 22R AND THE PARAMEDICS WERE WAITING FOR US AT THE GATE.
