LATE DSCNT CAUSES MLG TO MISS ALT XING RESTR AT SAKKI INTXN BY 6000 FT.

Narrative

GIVEN DSCNT FROM FL260 TO CROSS SAKKI AT 6000 FT; CAPT'S LEG. STARTED DSCNT LATE APPROX 60 LDA DME. CTR ASKED IF WE COULD STILL COMPLY. REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE AND BEGAN DSNDING. IT APPEARED THAT WE WOULD MAKE IT WITH A HIGH SPD DSCNT AND SPD BRAKES; BUT AS WE GOT CLOSER TO SAKKI I KNEW WE WEREN'T GOING TO MAKE THE RESTR. AS I WAS TRYING TO RECALCULATE AND MONITOR THE PROPER DSCNT PROFILE I NEGLECTED TO TELL ATC WE WOULDN'T MAKE IT. AT SAKKI WE WERE AT APPROX 12000 FT (6000 FT HIGH). ATC SWITCHED US TO HNL APCH AND I CHKED IN TELLING THEM WE WEREN'T ABLE TO MAKE SAKKI AT 6000 FT. THEY ROGERED US AND VECTORED US IN NORMALLY WITH NO OTHER INCIDENT. NORMALLY THE PF PICKS HIS DSCNT POINT. SOMEWHERE AROUND 80 LDA DME; I SUGGESTED HE START DOWN. AT THAT POINT CAPT REFERRED TO HIS ENRTE CHART TO FIGURE OUT DME TO SAKKI. BY THE TIME HE FINALLY REALIZED HOW CLOSE WE WERE WE WERE WAY OFF PROFILE. BETTER SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND CRM ON BOTH OUR PARTS COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. ALSO SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ATC WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLY A LOT SOONER THAN WE DID.
