ATX FLC MAKES WRONG RWY APCH AND LNDG IN A NIGHT OP AT ROC; NY.
I APCHED ROC FROM THE E BELOW THE CLOUDS AT 3000 FT. ATIS RPTED THE ACTIVE RWY AS RWY 22. THE ARPT WAS IN SIGHT AND I WAS CLRED FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 25 AND CLRED TO LAND. I ENTERED A R DOWNWIND TO RWY 25. AFTER ROLLING LEVEL ON BASE LEG THE COPLT POINTED OUT THE RWY AND ASKED 'DO YOU HAVE THE RWY IN SIGHT.' I SAID 'YES I DO;' OR 'OH; IT LOOKS LIKE I OVERSHOT FINAL.' I MADE A TURN TO FINAL AND ROLLED LEVEL ABOUT ONE HALF MI OUT. I SELECTED FULL FLAPS; COMPLETED 'GUMPS' CHK; REDUCED PWR AND LANDED. ON THE LNDG ROLLOUT THE TWR TOLD ME TO TURN L AT THE NEXT INTXN AND COMMENTED THAT I HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 22. THE COPLT WHO WAS DOING THE RADIO WORK APOLOGIZED TO THE TWR CTLR FOR OUR MISTAKE. NO OTHER COMMENT WAS MADE. THE ARPT WAS NOT BUSY AND THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC. IN RETROSPECT: THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD LANDED AT THIS ARPT. IT WAS A NIGHT FLT TO AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT. I DID REVIEW THE ARPT DIAGRAM FOR LAYOUT AND RWY LENGTHS. I SHOULD HAVE STUDIED IT MORE THOROUGHLY. COMS BTWN THE COPLT AND MYSELF SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED RWY NUMBERS. IN ALL THE CONFUSION OF TURNING TO FINAL AND ROLLOUT ON SHORT FINAL; LAST MIN CHKS; I OVERLOOKED VERIFYING THE HEADING ON THE DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE. IF I WOULD HAVE DONE THE XCHK THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. ALSO POOR COM WAS A FACTOR. THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST TIME I FLEW WITH THIS COPLT. PLEASE FIND ENCLOSED ARPT DIAGRAM WITH THE APPROX FLT PATH DRAWN ON IT.
