AN ACR B757 CAPT MISUNDERSTOOD HIS DEP TIME. AN ACR INSPECTOR QUESTIONED HIS LATE ARR TO THE ACFT.
I WAS CAPT OF FLT WHICH WAS SCHEDULED TO DEPART AT XA30 LCL. I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT IT WAS TO HAVE BEEN AN XA42 DEP. AFTER SIGN-IN; I INDUSTRIOUSLY PREPARED FOR DEP; MESSAGES; FLT PAPERWORK; REQUIRED FLT MANUAL REVISIONS; ETC. DEPARTING FROM THE X CONCOURSE ALSO TOOK LONGER TO GET TO THE GATE. FINALLY ARRIVING AT THE ACFT AT APPROX XA21; I WAS GREETED BY AN FAA EXAMINER DOING A RAMP CHK. WE INTRODUCED OURSELVES AND HE ASKED TO DO A CHK OF MY LICENSE AND MEDICAL. I COMPLIED. I PROCEEDED TO GET INTO MY SEAT TO BEGIN MY PREDEP PREPARATIONS. THAT WAS ABOUT XA25. THE FAA EXAMINER REAPPEARED IN THE COCKPIT; GAVE ME BACK MY DOCUMENTS; AND ASKED IF I THOUGHT 5 MINS WAS ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE FOR DEP. I WAS A BIT CONFUSED; SINCE I THOUGHT I HAD ABOUT 17 MINS REMAINING BEFORE SCHEDULED DEP. BUT I DID SAY I HAD A LOT OF PAPERWORK TO DO BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE ACFT. HE SAID GOODBYE; AND LEFT. THE FO THEN INFORMED ME SCHEDULED DEP TIME WAS ACTUALLY XA30; NOT XA42. WE COMPLETED OUR PREDEP CHKS; AND DEPARTED AT XA35. THIS WAS A SIMPLE MATTER OF MISUNDERSTANDING THE SCHEDULED DEP TIME; BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE FAA THOUGHT I WAS SIMPLY NOT CARING TO ALLOW ENOUGH TIME BEFORE DEP.
