Synopsis

A B757 EXPERIENCED A R ENG FIRE WARNING ON CLBOUT. ENG SHUTDOWN AND EMER DECLARED. FIRE WARNING CAUSED BY HIGH PRESSURE PNEUMATIC LEAK ON ENG.

Narrative

ON CLB FROM CLT TO BOS THROUGH FL230; R ENG FIRE WARNING SOUNDED AND EICAS MESSAGE FOR R ENG FIRE. REQUESTED STOP CLB AT FL240. ENG FIRE SINGLE ENG CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND BOTH FIRE BOTTLES WERE DISCHARGED AND FIRE WARNING REMAINED ILLUMINATED. FIRE WARNING WENT OUT ON DSCNT AROUND 10000-13000 FT MSL. EMER WAS DECLARED AND FLT DIVERTED GSO. SINGLE ENG ILS TO FULL STOP FOR INSPECTION. NO EMER EVAC NECESSARY. EMER EQUIP CLRED ACFT. AS A RESULT; NO EMER EVAC WAS NECESSARY. L ENG WAS SHUT DOWN DURING INSPECTION AND RESTARTED FOR SINGLE ENG TAXI TO GATE. RWY 23 WAS ACTIVE GSO. ILS APCH WAS NECESSARY. WX WAS 200 FT OVCST AND 1 1/4 MI VISIBILITY IN FOG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE FIRE WARNING WAS DEFINITELY NOT A FALSE WARNING. THE HIGH PRESSURE BLEED AIR HOUSING HAD CRACKED AND BURNED THE FIRE WARNING LOOP IN 2. THE ENG WAS A P&W 2037. THE AIRPLANE WAS NOT EVACED AS THE EMER EQUIP PERSONNEL CHKED THE ENG AND FOUND NO FIRE. THE FAA HAS NOT CONTACTED THE RPTR.
