AN ACR B727-200 CREW TAXIED PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINES AT MIA'S RWY 9L. ERROR ADMITTED.

Narrative

IT HAD BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS SINCE THIS CREW OF A SCHEDULED ACR HAD BEEN INTO MIA. WE ALL HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE ARPT MANY TIMES IN THE RECENT PAST; HOWEVER; IN THE INTERIM PERIOD THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 9L HAD BEEN RELOCATED SEVERAL HUNDRED FT FROM THE ORIGINAL LOCATION. WE WERE IN SEQUENCE BEHIND AN ACR B767 WHICH HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF. WE REQUESTED 2 MINS WAKE TURB SEPARATION BEHIND THE HVY JET. THE TWR RESPONDED; 'ROGER; TAXI UP TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 9L.' AS WE PROCEEDED UP TO THE OLD (FAMILIAR) HOLD SHORT POINT; WE REALIZED THE OLD LINES HAD BEEN PAINTED OVER; BUT WERE STILL HIGHLY VISIBLE. WE REALIZED THAT WE NEEDED TO RETURN TO THE PROPER HOLD SHORT POINT. WHEN QUESTIONED; THE TWR SAID OUR POS WAS NOT A PROB FOR ACFT TAKING OFF AHEAD OF US; BUT WAS FOR ACFT LNDG. CLRLY WE SHOULD HAVE SEEN AND STOPPED AT THE PROPER HOLD SHORT POINT; BUT THERE WERE SEVERAL FACTORS THAT LURED US TO THE OLD HOLD SHORT LINES: 1) THE NEW LINES ARE VERY FAR FROM THE RWY; WHERE YOU DON'T EXPECT THEM TO BE. 2) THERE IS NO INDICATION ON THE TAXI CHART OR NOTAMS THAT INDICATE THE LINES HAD BEEN RELOCATED. 3) THE TWR USED IMPROPER PHRASEOLOGY BY TELLING US TO TAXI UP TO THE RWY; INSTEAD OF SIMPLY SAYING 'HOLD SHORT' WHICH WE WERE ALREADY DOING. HIS PHRASEOLOGY ENTICED US TO CONTINUE UP TO THE RWY PAST THE HOLD SHORT POINT. 4) THE OLD HOLD SHORT LINES ARE STILL VISIBLE IN THE DAYTIME; ESPECIALLY AT THAT TIME IN THE AFTERNOON WITH THE SUN IN FRONT OF US AND REFLECTING OFF THE OLD LINES. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE B727-200 REGULARLY INTO MIA. THE TXWY IS CONCRETE AND THE OLD HOLD SHORT LINES ARE PAINTED GRAY BUT ARE STILL HIGHLY VISIBLE. THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE IN THIS SINCE THE RPT. THE CREW MADE A 180 DEG TURN AWAY FROM THE OLD LINES WITH CONCURRENCE OF THE ATCT. THE RPTR HAS HEARD NOTHING FROM THE FAA ON THIS. HE WILL ASK HIS ACR TO PUT A WARNING ON THE FLT RELEASE TO WARN CREWS OF THE NEW LINE PLACEMENT.
