THE ACR B727-200 FLC TAXIED THROUGH THE HOLD SHORT AREA FOR THE INTXN OF TXWYS 'L' AND 'ED.' THE FLC FEELS THAT MISLEADING SIGNAGE WAS THE PRIMARY CAUSE.
TAXI N ON TXWY L TO RWY 17L; HOLD SHORT OF TXWYS E AND D. COMING UP ON INTXN 'CN' WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD BECAUSE THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY 'ED.' WE WENT INTO THE INTXN -- NO TFC CONFLICT AND SUBSEQUENTLY TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 8. IOE WAS BEING CONDUCTED; SO ENTIRE CREW BUSY. WHAT I FEEL LEADS TO THE CONFUSION OF MISSING THE INTXN IS THAT ONCE ON TXWY L NBOUND THE SIGNAGE SHOWS 'CN' BOTH L AND R AT THE INTXN WHICH GND CTL CALLED 'ED.' I MISSED MY HOLD SHORT OF 'ED' BECAUSE OF WORKLOAD (IOE) AND CONFUSION OF SIGNAGE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THIS B727-200 FLC TAXIED THROUGH TXWY 'ED' AT DEN BECAUSE THEY SAW A TXWY SIGN FOR TXWY 'CN' AND THOUGHT THAT 'ED' WAS A BIT FURTHER N OF THEIR POS. THIS RPTR SAID THAT HE WAS NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH DEN; BUT HIS INSTRUCTOR WAS AND EVEN HE WAS SURPRISED. THE RPTR SAID THAT THE INSTRUCTOR FINALLY LOCATED THE TXWY 'ED' SIGN AFTER THEY HAD STOPPED IN THE INTXN. THE ONLY TXWY 'ED' SIGN VISIBLE TO THE RPTR WAS OVER BY TXWY M SOME DISTANCE FROM THEIR INTXN. THE RPTR SAID THAT HE HAD STUDIED THE ARPT PAGE OF HIS COMMERCIAL PLATES BEFORE STARTING HIS TAXI. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 362434: WE BELIEVE THE TXWY MARKING COULD BE BETTER. ON TXWY L THE SIGN FOR 'ED' IS ACROSS THE GRASS CLOSE TO TXWY M; WAY TO THE R. ON THE L OF TXWY L IS A SIGN FOR 'CN' ONLY. HAD WE BEEN ON TXWY M TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY 'ED' I BELIEVE WE WOULD NOT HAVE MISSED THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC. I THINK THERE IS A SIGNAGE PROB IN THIS AREA.
