Synopsis

FK10 HAD BEEN CLRED TO 15000 FT. SUBSEQUENTLY HAD BEEN RECLRED FOR VECTORS AND TO MAINTAIN 5000 FT. THE ALT ALERTER WAS NOT RESET TO 5000 FT. WHEN CLRED DIRECT TO TUL; FO WHO WAS FLYING; GLANCED AT ALT ALERTER AND BEGAN CLB TO 15000 FT. THEY WERE APCHING 6000 FT WHEN CTLR TOLD THEM TO DSND TO 5000 FT.

Narrative

WE DEPARTED OKC RWY 35R ON AN INITIAL CLRNC OF HDG 010 DEGS; MAINTAIN 5000 FT. THE COPLT WAS HAND FLYING AND WE WERE IN MODERATE CHOP WITH RAINSHOWERS IN THE AREA. AFTER LIFTOFF WE ASKED THE TWR FOR HDG 030 DEGS FOR WX. HE APPROVED THIS AND HANDED US OFF TO DEP. DEP TOLD US TO CLB TO 15000 FT; WHICH I SET IN THE ALT WINDOW. WE THEN ASKED FOR A 040 DEG HDG FOR WX. THE CTLR THEN ASKED WHEN WE COULD TURN N. I SAID IN ABOUT 8 MI. HE SAID WE COULD EITHER TURN N NOW OR MAINTAIN 5000 FT. I ASKED FOR PRESENT HDG AND 5000 FT. I BELIEVE WE WERE AT ABOUT 4300 FT WHEN THIS EXCHANGE TOOK PLACE. WE THEN DO NOT REMEMBER ANY FURTHER VERBIAGE FROM THE CTLR TO ENSURE THAT 5000 FT WAS INDEED OUR NEW CLRNC; WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE I FAILED TO RESET THE ALT WINDOW TO 5000 FT. AS THE COPLT STARTED TO LEVEL THE AIRPLANE AT 5000 FT; WE HEARD OUR CALL SIGN FOLLOWED BY; TFC NO FACTOR CLRED DIRECT TULSA. THE COPLT SAW 15000 FT IN THE ALT AND INITIATED A CLB. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS BECAUSE I WAS OBSERVING THE RADAR TO ENSURE THAT THE NEW COURSE WOULD REMAIN CLR OF THE WX. WE WERE APCHING 6000 FT WHEN THE CTLR TOLD US TO DSND TO 5000 FT AND TURN TO 360 DEGS; WHICH WE DID. IT WAS THEN I REALIZED I HAD FORGOTTEN TO RESET THE ALT WINDOW.
