AN MD80 IN CRUISE EXPERIENCED AN INTOXICATED AND UNRULY PAX WHO INTERFERED WITH A FLT ATTENDANT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HER DUTIES.

Narrative

I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY HOW AND WHY THE SIT BTWN THE PAX AND THE WORKING FLT ATTENDANT CAME ABOUT IN THE REAR OF THE ACFT. I DO KNOW THE PAX INVOLVED DID HAVE SEVERAL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE ON BOARD. I HAD SOLD 2 DRINKS TO HIM MYSELF WHEN I WENT TO MAIN CABIN FOR SUPPLIES. MY CONTACT WITH HIM INCLUDED SELLING HIM THOSE DRINKS AND THEN AGAIN WHEN HE CAME TO THE FIRST CLASS CABIN TO INFORM ME THAT HE WAS HAVING A PROB WITH A FLT ATTENDANT IN THE BACK WHO HAD 'THREATENED TO HAVE SECURITY MEET THE FLT.' I TRIED TO TALK WITH HIM TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. HE WAS CALM TALKING TO ME AND LISTENED TO ME WHEN I ASKED HIM TO LOWER HIS VOICE; ETC. HE DID ADMIT HE WAS 'A LITTLE BIT INTOXICATED' AND UPON ASKING HIM TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT WAS SAID BTWN HIM AND THE FLT ATTENDANT; HE 'WASN'T TOO SURE;' 'DIDN'T THINK' HE SAID ANYTHING WRONG. DURING MY CONVERSATION WITH HIM; THE FLT ATTENDANT INVOLVED WAS SPEAKING WITH THE CAPT OVER THE CABIN PHONE. AFTER ABOUT 2 OR 3 MINS; THE CAPT CAME OUT OF THE COCKPIT AND TOLD THE PAX TO RETURN TO HIS SEAT; STOP INTERFERING WITH HIS CREW; AND TO BE QUIET OR HE'D LAND THE PLANE AND HAVE HIM REMOVED FROM THE ACFT. THE PAX DID AS HE WAS ASKED; AND REPEATEDLY APOLOGIZED BOTH TO ME AND A THIRD FLT ATTENDANT (NOT INVOLVED) EACH TIME WE WALKED PASSED HIM. THE SECURITY PERSONNEL WHO WERE CALLED BY THE CAPT MET THE FLT. THE FLT ATTENDANT INVOLVED DID NOT PRESS CHARGES. THE PAX WAS ESCORTED OUT. ALCOHOL WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR AND THE CAPT'S DECISION TO HAVE SECURITY THERE WAS ACCURATE SINCE ANOTHER PAX INTIMATED BY THE PAX INVOLVED VOICED HIS FEAR THAT AN INCIDENT MAY BE OCCURRING IN THE BAGGAGE CLAIM AREA.
