B777 ENCOUNTERS WINDSHEAR ON LNDG. ACFT DRIFTS R END; HITS RWY LIGHT DAMAGING TIRE AND RIM.

Narrative

DURING APCH INTO DEN RWY 35L; MICROBURST RPTS FROM APCH CTL BEGAN APPROX 20 MI FROM RWY. DURING FINAL APCH SEGMENT; TWR REMOVED MICROBURST ALERT AND CAPT CONTINUED FOR LNDG. WE CARRIED EXTRA 20 KTS FOR LNDG. DURING FLARE IN FIRST 2000 FT OF RWY; STRONG; SUDDEN BURST ABOUT 32+ KTS OF WIND; COUPLED WITH BLOWING DIRT/SAND IMPACTED ACFT. WE DRIFTED R AND CAPT COMMITTED ACFT FOR LNDG. AFTER FINALLY STOPPING AND TAXIING IN TO GATE; MECH ALERTED US OF A BLOWN TIRE WITH ANOTHER TIRE'S RIM METAL PIECE CHIPPED OFF. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION; WE WERE TOLD 1 TAXI LIGHT WAS DESTROYED AND IMPACTED R TIRE. WE WARNED TWR OF SHEAR AND RWY WAS SWITCHED FOR OTHER ACFT. I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST THE POLICY OF MAKING 'MICROBURST ALERTS' SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED EVERY 30 SECONDS TO EVERY MIN. ONCE AN ALERT IS MADE; UNTIL EVERYTHING HAS COMPLETELY SUBSIDED (WX); THEN REMOVE WARNING. IT APPEARS TO ME TWR WAS MAKING FINE CALLS TO ACCOMMODATE TFC LNDG. OUR POLICY AT COMPANY IS STRICTLY NOT TO LAND DURING 'MICROBURST ALERT.' ALERTS WERE CALLED AND REMOVED AS THEY CAME IN AND OUT. VIRGA WAS PRESENT. I CAN ONLY THANK OUR INTENSIVE TRAINING AT COMPANY ON WINDSHEAR FOR AVERTING A WORSE SIT.
