A B727-200 WAS DISPATCHED WITH NUMEROUS DEFERRED OR MAINT CARRY-OVER ITEMS NOT CORRECTED ON OVERNIGHT LAYOVER.

Narrative

DESPITE ASSURANCES BY CHIEF PLT OF A 'LOW DEFERRED ITEM COUNT PER ACFT;' FOLLOWING 2 FLTS; HAD NUMEROUS MAINT CARRY-OVER ITEMS AS LISTED -- XXX-ZZZ: AUTOPLT SYS ILS GS APCH MODE INOP; #1 THRUST REVERSER INOP; #1 FUEL TANK QUANTITY INDICATOR INOP; NOSE TIRE SHOWING CORD WITH 4 MORE LNDGS AVAILABLE; ENRTE A #2 FUEL TANK BOOST PUMP CIRCUIT BREAKER POPPED. ZZZ-XYZ: LNDG LIGHT INOP; WING POS LIGHT INOP; SEAT BELT/NO SMOKING LIGHTS BURNT OUT; #2 FUEL FLOW INDICATOR INOP. I THINK IT'S BEST SUMMED UP BY MECH IN ZZZ. AFTER TELLING HIM ABOUT ACFT; HE SAID; 'IT'S NOT LAYING OVER HERE; SO IT'S NO PROGRAM.' ACR IS EITHER LYING; DECEIVING; OR IN DENIAL ABOUT ITS MAINT PROB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATES THE ACFT WAS A B727-200 WITH P&W JT8D-7 ENGS AND HAD STAYED OVERNIGHT AT XXX WITH NO WORK ACCOMPLISHED ON THE NUMEROUS DEFERRED MAINT ITEMS. THE RPTR ADVISES THE SIT OF DISPATCHING AN ACFT WITH NUMEROUS MAINT DEFERRED ITEMS IS GETTING WORSE. THE RPTR STATED THE COMPANY IS PLAYING A NUMBERS GAME WITH ITS MAINT PROGRAM.
