Synopsis

A JETSTREAM 32 IN CRUISE DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO HYD BRAKE PRESSURE INDICATION TO THE L MAIN GEAR BRAKE; ON LNDG BRAKE WAS LOCKED.

Narrative

DURING CRUISE FLT NOTICED L TOE PEDAL BRAKE PRESSURE GAUGE INDICATED APPROX 700 PSI AT THE PEDAL PRESSURE WITH NEITHER CAPT'S NOR FO'S FEET ON THE PEDALS. CONSULTED COMPANY MAINT BY RADIO FOR POSSIBLE REMEDIES BUT WAS UNABLE TO ELIMINATE THE INDICATION. DECLARED AN EMER AND REQUESTED THAT EQUIP BE AVAILABLE IN CASE THERE ACTUALLY WAS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE. ON TOUCHDOWN L WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND TIRE DEFLATED. ACFT WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE RWY UNDER ITS OWN PWR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A JETSTREAM 32 AND MAINT ADVISED THE CAUSE OF THE LOCKED BRAKE WAS A FAILED BRAKE ASSEMBLY. THE RPTR SAID THE 700 PSI AT THE WHEEL WAS NOTICED IN CRUISE AND NOTHING SUGGESTED BY COMPANY MAINT HELPED. RPTR STATED THE ACFT HAD NO MAINT HISTORY OF BRAKE TROUBLE AND HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. THE RPTR ADVISED WHILE LNDG A LITTLE MORE PWR WAS USED AND HELPED IN CTLING THE ACFT. THE RPTR SAID THE ACFT NEVER LEFT THE RWY BUT NEEDED A TOW TO THE GATE.
