PIC RPT OF N1 OVERSPD CONDITION ON #1 AND #3 ENG TACHOMETER OVERSPD POINTERS. RPTR WAS AT HOME; JUST AFTER FLT; WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO CALL MAINT REGARDING THIS SIT. THE FOLLOWING CREW HAD REFUSED THE ACFT. RPTR DENIES ALLEGATION OF ANY WRONG DOING.
UPON RETURNING HOME FROM A 2 DAY ROTATION; I HAD A PHONE MESSAGE TO CONTACT COMPANY MAINT. I CONTACTED THEM IMMEDIATELY AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE ACFT I HAD BROUGHT IN WAS TURNED DOWN BY THE OUTBOUND CREW BECAUSE ENGS #1 AND #3 TACHOMETERS (N1) INDICATED AN OVERSPD CONDITION ON THEIR RESPECTIVE TACHOMETERS OVERSPD POINTERS. I TOLD MAINT THAT I HAD FLOWN THE LAST 2 LEGS WITH THIS ACFT AND HAD MADE 2 ALTERNATE PWR TKOFS AND NO ABRUPT OR EXCESSIVE PWR CHANGES TO CAUSE THE OVERSPD. OUR OVERSPD POINTERS ARE MECHANICAL AND DO NOT RESET AUTOMATICALLY. THEY MUST BE RESET BY PUSHING A RESET SWITCH. PERHAPS IN MY INITIAL COCKPIT SETUP THE POINTERS WENT UNNOTICED. ADDITIONALLY; OUR OPERATING MANUAL STATES THAT THE POINTERS ARE TO BE CHKED ON ENG SHUTDOWN BECAUSE A 'SPIKE' OVERSPD COULD OCCUR AT THIS TIME. AGAIN; I COULD HAVE MISSED THEM. MY CONCLUSION IS THAT I DID NOT OVERSPD EITHER ENG AND THAT A PREVIOUS CREW WAS RESPONSIBLE; IN WHICH CASE THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE HOW LONG THE INDICATION INDICATING THE OVERSPD CONDITION EXISTED OR; THEY SPIKED ON SHUTDOWN AND I MISSED THEM ON THE SHUTDOWN CHKLIST.
