A FOKKER 100 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR SIDE STAY NOT CORRECTLY INSPECTED.
DURING ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ACR ENGINEERING ORDER JOB CARD; I PERFORMED AN EDDY CURRENT INSPECTION OF R MAIN LNDG GEAR SIDE STAY ATTACH HOLES ON A FOKKER F100 ACFT TO CHK CORROSION REMOVAL. THE INSPECTOR (XYZ) ASSIGNED TO THE ACFT REMARKED THAT 'THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR WASN'T YET PREPARED FOR MY INSPECTION; BUT THE HOLES LOOKED CLEAN.' I REMARKED; DUE TO MY MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE PURPOSE OF THE ENGINEERING ORDER; THAT 'I DIDN'T THINK MY INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED IF THE HOLES WERE CLEAN.' AT THAT POINT I LEFT THE AREA TO PERFORM INSPECTIONS ON OTHER ACFT. WHEN THE SAME SIT AROSE ON NOV/XX/97 I DISCOVERED MY INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED ON ALL LNDG GEAR AND I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT. AT THIS POINT I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE TAIL NUMBER OF THE ACFT INVOLVED DUE TO A 4-6 WK TIME LAPSE. I CONTACTED THE OTHER INSPECTOR AND HE COULDN'T REMEMBER; EITHER; IF I HAD RETURNED TO COMPLETE THE INSPECTION. HE REMARKED THAT; 'HE COULD HAVE N/A'ED THE EDDY CURRENT INSPECTION.' WE HAVE SEARCHED COMPANY RECORDS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY AND ARE UNABLE TO FIND ANY DISCREPANCIES IN THE ENGINEERING ORDER PAPERWORK. DUE TO LINGERING DOUBTS; I HAVE FILED THIS RPT AND NOTIFIED ACR'S QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPT SO THEY CAN CONDUCT A THOROUGH SEARCH OF THEIR OWN.
