Synopsis

CAPT OF A B737-400 LOST CTL OF THE ACFT DURING TAXI FOR TKOF RESULTING IN RUNNING OFF END OF THE USABLE RWY AND RECEIVING DAMAGE TO 1 ENG TURBINE BLADE.

Narrative

WE ARRIVED CDV FROM ANC AND WE RPTED BRAKING ACTION FAIR. IT SNOWED DURING OUR GND TIME (24 MINS). WE DEICED AND TAXIED OUT FOR A RWY 9 DEP. I TAXIED SLOWER THAN NORMAL TAXI SPD DUE TO THE SNOW ON THE GND AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. AS WE APCHED THE DEP END OF RWY 9 I APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW FOR A 180 DEG TURN AND FOUND THE BRAKING ACTION TO BE NIL. I USED MAX REVERSE AND MAX BRAKING TO STOP THE ACFT. WE STOPPED APPROX 15 FT PAST THE RWY END IDENTIFIER LIGHTS. THE ACFT WAS SLIGHTLY L OF CTRLINE HDG 280 DEGS. WE SHUT DOWN THE ENGS; CALLED CDV OPS AND REQUESTED A CREW COME OUT TO CHK OUR POS; AND CHK FOR ANY DAMAGE. THEY TOLD US WE WERE STILL ON THE PAVED SURFACE WITH NO APPARENT ACFT DAMAGE. THEY PLOWED A PATH FOR OUR NOSEWHEEL TO TURN AROUND TO THE R AND WE DID SO WITH NO OTHER PROBS NOTED. WE TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP FOR A MAINT INSPECTION. A SLIGHT CURL WAS FOUND ON THE LEADING EDGE TIP ON FAN BLADE 58N ON ENG #1. IT WAS WITHIN LIMITS AND WE DEPARTED FOR YAK. I MUST HAVE BEEN TAXIING TOO FAST FOR THE EXISTING CONDITIONS; OR I ATTEMPTED TO STOP TOO CLOSE TO THE RWY END. I DID NOT REALIZE THIS AT THE TIME. TAXI SPD SHOULD BE EVEN SLOWER THAN WHAT APPEARS TO BE SAFE SPD WHEN THERE IS SNOW ON THE SURFACE. EXPECT POOR BRAKING CONDITIONS AT ALL TIMES.

Frequently asked questions

How do I search flights by aircraft type on FlightFinder?

Pick an aircraft model — Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more — enter your origin airport, and FlightFinder shows every route that plane flies from there with live fares.

Which aircraft types can I filter by?

We support Boeing 737/747/757/767/777/787, the full Airbus A220/A319/A320/A321/A330/A340/A350/A380 family, Embraer E170/E175/E190/E195, Bombardier CRJ and Dash 8, and the ATR 42/72 turboprops.

Is FlightFinder free to use?

Search and schedules are free. Pro ($4.99/month, $39/year, or $99 one-time lifetime) unlocks the enriched flight card — on-time stats, CO₂ per passenger, amenities, live gate & weather — plus My Trips with push alerts.

Where does the route data come from?

Live schedules come from Amadeus, AeroDataBox and Travelpayouts. Observed routes (which aircraft actually flew a given city pair) are crowdsourced from adsb.lol ADS-B data under the Open Database License.
