Synopsis

A B737-200 LOSES ITS 'A' SYS HYDS WHILE ON FINAL APCH TO OAK. ACFT CONTINUES VISUAL APCH AFTER DECLARING AN EMER AND STOPS ON THE RWY FOR A TOW.

Narrative

AFTER A NORMAL FLT FROM PHX TO OAK PREPARATION AND BRIEFINGS WERE MADE FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 29. VECTORS TO FINAL WERE PROVIDED. APPROX 15 MI OUT; CONFIGN OF THE ACFT WAS INITIATED. APCHING THE FINAL FIX; THE ACFT WAS GEAR DOWN WITH THE FLAPS AT 15 PERCENT; WE ENTERED VMC CONDITIONS. AFTER SELECTING FLAPS 25 PERCENT; THE MASTER CAUTION ALONG WITH THE HYD LOW PRESSURE LIGHTS FOR THE 'A' HYD SYS WERE NOTED. THE PROB WAS FURTHER VERIFIED BY THE ZERO QUANTITY READING OF THE 'A' SYS. AN EMER WAS DECLARED BY OAKLAND TWR. THE QRH WAS REFERRED TO AND THE LOSS OF SYS 'A' CHKLIST COMPLETED. AFTER LNDG; THE ACFT WAS STOPPED ON THE RWY. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT THE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE NOTIFIED AS TO WHAT HAD TAKEN PLACE AND THAT EMER EQUIP WAS ON THE WAY. THE PAX WERE THEN TOLD OVER THE PA FROM THE FLT DECK ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TO BE TOWED INTO THE GATE. THE PROB WAS FOUND TO BE A BROKEN HYD LINE FROM THE #2 ENG. REPAIRS WERE MADE; WITH THE ACFT FLOWN OUT EARLY THE NEXT MORNING.
