DC9 PIC ABORTS TKOF WHEN OBSERVING AN SF340 TAXI ACROSS DEP RWY.
UPON STARTING TKOF ROLL ON RWY 3C IN DTW; I NOTICED AN SF340 DOWN-FIELD WHO APPEARED TO BE GOING TO CROSS RWY AT TXWY F. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED ABORT TKOF AND DID SO PROMPTLY. ACFT ATTAINED A SPD OF ABOUT 40 KTS AND WE ROLLED ABOUT 300-400 FT DOWN RWY. ATC ALSO NOTICED AND CALLED FOR US TO STOP AFTER WE STARTED OUR ABORT. TXWY F IS ABOUT 1500 FT DOWN RWY. WE STOPPED THE ACFT WITH STILL ABOUT 1000 FT TO THE INTXN. WE MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD TKOF CLRNC. RWY 3C IS THE MAIN TKOF RWY AT DTW; ALSO THE MOST CROSSED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 396062: AS FO; PF; WE WERE TAXIING FOR TKOF ON RWY 3C. THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. WHILE DOING THE FO FLOW; I ENCOUNTERED SOME PROBS WITH THE INTERPHONE. THIS SLOWED THE COMPLETION OF THE BEFORE TKOF CHK AND THE TWR CLRNC CAME WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF THE BEFORE TKOF CHK COMPLETION. THE CAPT ANSWERED THE TWR CLRNC; I COMPLETED THE CHKLIST AND WE TAXIED ONTO RWY 3C FOR TKOF. AS THE CAPT ALIGNED THE ACFT FOR TKOF ON THE CTRLINE; HE XFERRED ACFT CTL TO ME. AT APPROX 1.7 EPR; 30 KTS AND 200 FT INTO OUR TKOF ROLL; THE CAPT TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND ABORTED THE TKOF. AS I LOOKED UP FROM THE INST PANEL; I SAW AN SF340 ACFT XING RWY 3C AT TXWY F.
