Synopsis

AN LR55 ON TKOF ROLL HAD BOTH R MAIN LNDG GEAR TIRES BLOW OUT DUE TO A BRAKE ANTI-SKID SYS FAILURE CAUSED BY A BROKEN WIRE IN THE WHEEL WELL JUNCTION BOX.

Narrative

ON TKOF OUT OF CYVR WHAT APPEARED TO BE A NORMAL TKOF ROLL TURNED INTO A TIRE BLOW OUT ON ROTATION. THE ACFT ACCELERATED THROUGH V1 AND AS WE BEGAN TO ROTATE WE HEARD A THUD. WE SUSPECTED WE HAD BLOWN A TIRE AT ROTATION. HOWEVER; WE WERE OVER MAX GROSS LNDG WT. WE ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE FLT ON TO OMA. LNDG AT CYVR WOULD HAVE TAKEN BURNING OFF 2000 LBS OF FUEL AND DIDN'T SEEM PRACTICAL SINCE THE GEAR HAD COME UP INTO THE WELL (GEAR WELL) WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON TOUCHDOWN THE R SIDE TIRES (BOTH) BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THE ACFT CAME TO A STOP JUST SHORT OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE OFF TXWY C AND RWY 14R. THE ACFT WAS NOT FULLY CLR OF THE RWY THUS CLOSING DOWN OMA FOR APPROX 25 MINS UNTIL THE ACFT COULD BE TOWED PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE. IT WAS LATER EVIDENT THAT WE HAD BLOWN BOTH R TIRES ON TKOF OUT OF CYVR AND ENDED UP RIDING ON THE BRAKES AND RIMS TO GET THE ACFT TO STOP. THE ACFT COULD NOT BE TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY SINCE WE HAD NO TIRES LEFT. THE RUBBER HAD MELTED AS DID PART OF THE RIM AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS AN LR55 AND THE DAMAGE INCURRED ON LNDG AT OMA WAS LIMITED TO THE GROUND-DOWN WHEELS AND BRAKES. THE RPTR SAID MAINT FOUND A BROKEN BRAKE ANTI-SKID WIRE IN THE R GEAR WELL JUNCTION BOX WHICH CAUSED THE ANTI-SKID TO FAIL ON TKOF.
