B767-200 ACFT ON SID DEP; FLC FAILED TO TURN ONTO RADIAL EXPECTING RADAR VECTORS. THE MAJORITY OF SIDS ON THE ARTHUR KILL 2 SAY TO EXPECT RADAR VECTORS. ONLY 3 OF 11 REQUIRE A RADIAL INTERCEPT.
THE EVENT OCCURRED ON THE ARTHUR KILL 2 DEP OUT OF EWR. THE CAPT HAD NOT FLOWN OUT OF EWR FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND IT WAS MY FIRST TIME. AFTER TURNING TO A HDG OF 260 DEGS ON THE DEP; WE OVERSHOT THE SBJ 100 DEG RADIAL ON WHICH WE WERE TO TRACK INTO SBJ. ATC DEP ALERTED US AND QUERIED WHETHER WE HAD INTERCEPTED THE RADIAL. ATC THEN GAVE US A HDG TO INTERCEPT THE RADIAL; AND LATER CLRED US DIRECT TO SBJ. THE FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT EVENT. TO CORRECT THE PROB; I OFFER ONE SUGGESTION. ON THE PDC; IT READS 'CLRED THE ARTHUR KILL 2 DEP' WITHOUT LISTING A SPECIFIC POINT OR GATE DEP. SINCE THE MAJORITY OF THE DEPS ON THE ARTHUR KILL 2 DEP ARE RADAR VECTORS AFTER BEING ESTABLISHED ON THE 260 DEG HDG; THIS CONFUSED ME. THE LANNA DEP; WHICH WAS OUR CLRED DEP; AND 2 OTHERS; REQUIRE AN INTERCEPT OF THE 100 DEG RADIAL OFF SBJ; UNLIKE THE MAJORITY WHICH ARE VECTORS. ONE WAY TO HELP ALERT CREWS TO THIS DIFFERENCE WOULD BE TO INCLUDE THE GATE DEP IN THE PDC CLRNC; IE; CLRED ARTHUR KILL 2 DEP; LANNA CLB. THIS EXPLICIT CLRNC WILL ALERT CREWS TO THE FACT THAT THE LANNA DEP REQUIRES A DIFFERENT CLRNC THAN THE NORM.
