B757 PIC RPT ON THE ATC PROC USED AT DFW AND OTHER ARPTS FOR KEEPING ACR ACFT HIGH AND FAST. THIS RESULTS IN A DESTABILIZED APCH AND A POSSIBLE HAZARD FOR OTHER LIGHTER ACFT FOLLOWING BEHIND.

Narrative

DURING APCH; APPROX 15 NM FROM ARPT; APCH CTL KEPT US HIGH (6000 FT) AND CLRED US TO DSND TO 4000 FT; TURN TO INTERCEPT THE LOC AND SLOW DOWN AT THE SAME TIME! THE B757 IS A FAIRLY CLEAN AIRPLANE AND DOES NOT SLOW DOWN WHILE DSNDING VERY WELL. WE WERE ALREADY ABOVE THE GS. THIS CLRNC CAUSED US TO HAVE TO INTERCEPT THE GS FROM ABOVE AND USE ALL OF THE CAPABILITIES OF THIS AIRPLANE TO GET DOWN AND RESULTED IN A NOT NORMAL APCH AND PREVENTED A STABLE APCH UNTIL BELOW 500 FT AGL. BY USING ALL OF THE CAPABILITIES OF THE AIRPLANE AND PLT SKILL; WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE A NORMAL LNDG OUT OF THIS EVENT. ACRS ARE UNDER A LOT OF ATC PRESSURE TO FLY FAST UNTIL THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT WHEN THE MAX PERFORMANCE OF THE AIRPLANE MUST BE USED TO GET A SAFE LNDG. MOST ACR ARPTS ARE USING THE ABOVE PROCS AND THE B757 HAS A STRONG WAKE. WHEN COUPLED WITH AN 'ABOVE THE SLOPE' CAPTURE (TO 'CAPTURE' THE GS) IT COULD LEAD TO DANGEROUS WAKE TURB ON THE GS FOR THE FOLLOWING SMALLER AIRPLANE AND LEAD TO ANOTHER DISASTROUS LOSS OF CTL BY THE FOLLOWING ACFT.
