FLC OF AN MLG CROSSED RWY HOLD LINE DURING TAXI FOR TKOF DUE TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE DID NOT INCLUDE THEIR RWY. AFTER THE RPTR ADVISED GND CTL THAT THEY HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE; THE CTLR INSTRUCTED THEM TO RETURN TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE BY MAKING A 180 DEG TURN.

Narrative

GND CTLR ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS TO 'CROSS RWY 19L AND RWY 19R AT TXWY B; TAXI TO RWY 7L.' AFTER TURNING L FROM TXWY B ON TXWY F; A LARGE SIGN IS PAINTED ON TXWY F JUST IN FRONT OF A HOLD LINE. THE SIGN READS; 'HOLD HERE FOR RWY 1L.' THIS SIGN LED US TO BELIEVE THERE WAS A SEPARATE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 7L FURTHER AHEAD ON A TAXI LINE LEADING TO RWY 7L. THERE IS NO SUCH SEPARATE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 7L. WE REALIZED THAT AS WE CROSSED THE LINE LABELED 'HOLD HERE FOR RWY 1L.' WE NOTIFIED TWR THAT WE WERE ACROSS THE HOLD LINE AND HE INSTRUCTED US TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN 'OFF THE RWY.' WE COMPLIED. THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT. THE PROB IS THAT THE SIGNAGE MISLEADS ONE BECAUSE IT CALLS YOUR ATTN TO ONLY 1 OF THE 2 RWYS THE HOLD LINE SERVES. SOLUTION: MAKE THE SIGN READ: 'HOLD HERE FOR RWYS 1L AND 7L.' CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THE AREA IN WHICH THE TXWY APCHS THE 2 RWY CONVERSIONS IS A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF CEMENT THAT HAS THE SIGN OF THE RWY 1L HOLD SHORT LINE PAINTED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OPEN AREA JUST IN FRONT OF THE ACTUAL HOLD SHORT LINE. HE BELIEVES THAT IT SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE THE RWY 7L SINCE IT IS COMMON TO RWY 1L AND THERE IS NO OTHER HOLD SHORT LINE. THERE WERE SEPARATE TAXI LINES TO THE FAR R OF THE OPEN AREA THAT WERE EACH IDENTED THE TAXI RTE FOR 1 OF THE 2 RWYS. HOWEVER; FROM HIS ACFT POS HE COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THEY INDICATED THE SAME HOLD SHORT LINE FOR BOTH RWYS. IN CONCLUSION; HE BELIEVES THAT HE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE HIS MISTAKE IF THE LARGE HOLD SHORT SIGN ALSO INCLUDED THE RWY 7L.
