A C182 TURNS OFF THE ACTIVE RWY THEN ONTO A TXWY ONLY TO FIND A KING AIR COMING AT HIM. PLT FAILS TO HEAR GND CTL COMMANDS FOR TAXI INSTRUCTION AS HE LEAVES THE RWY.
ON A TRAINING FLT WITH A CAP INSTRUCTOR; WE LANDED ON PHX RWY 26R IN TIGHT TFC. WE EXITED THE RWY TO THE S; OPPOSITE OUR INTENDED PARKING FOR TFC CONSIDERATIONS. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ACROSS THE RWY AND BEWARE OF A BEECH KING AIR THAT HAD US IN SIGHT; AT THIS POINT I WAS EXPEDITING MY XING OF THE RWY. I HEARD AN INSTRUCTION TO TAXI TO PARKING; AND STAY ON TWR FREQ. AFTER XING THE RWY; I INTENDED TO PROCEED WITHOUT STOPPING TO THE RAMP FOR PARKING; WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY TO MY L. AS I TURNED L; I NOTICED THE KING AIR COMING DIRECTLY TOWARDS ME SEVERAL HUNDRED FT AWAY. MY INSTRUCTOR CURSED ME; GRABBED THE PLANE AND MANEUVERED US OFF THE TXWY; AND WELL CLR OF THE KING AIR. EVIDENTLY; WE WERE SUPPOSED TO STOP AFTER XING THE RWY AND CONTACT GND. I DISCOVERED THE INCIDENT AS I OBSERVED THE KING AIR COMING TOWARDS US ON THE SAME TXWY. CORRECTIVE ACTION CONSISTED OF REMOVING OURSELVES FROM THE PATH OF THE KING AIR IMMEDIATELY; BY WAY OF A SHOT OF PWR AND A R TURN TO THE RAMP. FURTHER CORRECTIVE ACTIONS INCLUDED A THOROUGH DEBRIEFING WITH MY INSTRUCTOR AND A LONG DISCUSSION OF THE INCIDENT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS INCLUDED MY MOMENTARY DIVERTED ATTN TO MAKE 110% SURE WE WERE SAFE TO CROSS THE BUSY ACTIVE RWY. ALSO CONTRIBUTING TO THE INCIDENT WAS MY RECENT HIATUS FROM FLYING WHICH NECESSITATED ME TO HAVE AN INSTRUCTOR ON BOARD TO ASSIST ME IN JUST THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. FACTORS AFFECTING THE QUALITY OF HUMAN PERFORMANCE INCLUDE THE VERY INTENSE NATURE OF OPS AT PHX. IT IS A TRICKY ARPT FOR GA TFC. FOR THIS REASON; I CONSISTENTLY FLY WITH AN INSTRUCTOR OR AT LEAST ANOTHER EXPERIENCED PLT IN THE AREA. I AM FILING THIS RPT BECAUSE I REALIZED AFTERWARDS THAT I DID NOT HEAR THE CORRECT TAXI INSTRUCTION. I FELT A SENSE OF GUILT AFTERWARDS FOR HAVING MADE THIS INADVERTENT ERROR; WHICH SOURED AN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT FLT. BY FILING THIS RPT; I HOPE TO RESOLVE AND SETTLE THE ISSUE IN MY MIND. I FEEL THAT THE TIME I SPENT TALKING WITH MY INSTRUCTOR AND OTHER PLTS ABOUT THE INCIDENT HAS CORRECTED THE SIT AND I WILL SEEK EXTRA INSTRUCTION ON FUTURE DUAL FLTS TO IMPROVE MY CLASS B ARPT PROCS.
