A DC10-10 WAS DISPATCHED AND OPERATED WITH A FIRST CLASS SEAT INSTALLED WITHOUT THE PAX EMER OXYGEN CANISTER INSTALLED.
THE PROB WAS DISCOVERED ON A ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE ACFT; AND MY FELLOW MECH AND I WERE INFORMED OF THE PROB THAT THE OXYGEN GENERATOR WAS NOT INSTALLED IN A SVCABLE FIRST CLASS SEAT ASSEMBLY. SINCE THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THIS FIRST CLASS SEAT HAPPENED MORE THAN 2 MONTHS AGO; MY RECOLLECTION OF THE FOLLOWING EVENTS ARE AS SUCH: FIRST; MY PARTNER AND I HAD MULTIPLE NON ROUTINE ASSIGNMENTS UPON A DC10 ACFT. THIS INCLUDED WORK ON THE APU AND THE TASKS OF REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE FO SEAT; AND THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE FIRST CLASS SEAT. I REMEMBER PULLING UP THE MAINT MANUAL FOR THE FIRST CLASS SEAT AT THE SAME TIME I PULLED UP THE MAINT MANUAL FOR THE FO SEAT. I ALSO REMEMBER THAT WE WERE UNDER DURESS DUE TO THE ACFT HAVING AN EARLY FLT. WE ALSO HAD A PROB WITH TRYING TO GET THE MULTIPLEXER ENTERTAINMENT SYS WORKING ON THE FIRST CLASS SEAT. I BELIEVE THESE FACTORS: 1) THE SEAT HAVING A SVCABLE TAG ON IT; EVEN WHEN THE SEAT ASSEMBLY IS NOT COMPLETELY INTACT. 2) TIME; UNDER DURESS DUE TO ACFT EARLY FLT. 3) PROBS ARISING DURING TASKS. 4) PAPERWORK MAY HAVE BEEN MIXED BTWN FO AND FIRST CLASS; WERE THE CONTRIBUTING RESULTS OF THE INCIDENT. THE COMPANY IS LOOKING INTO FLAGGING THE OXYGEN COMPARTMENT ON THE SEAT ASSEMBLY TO HELP CATCH THE EYE OF FUTURE MECHS WITH THIS TASK. THE COMPANY IS ALSO LOOKING INTO OTHER PRECAUTIONARY AND TRAINING STEPS.
