Synopsis

AN AIRBUS 320 SHORTLY AFTER LIFTOFF AT 7500 FT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #2 ENG OVERTEMPED AND SHUT DOWN CAUSED BY A FAILED BLEED ACTUATOR.

Narrative

SHORTLY AFTER LIFTOFF; BEFORE GEAR RETRACTION; THE #2 ENG EGT OVERTEMPED TO 944 DEGS C. WE RETRACTED THE GEAR AND CLBED STRAIGHT AHEAD TO VASOS AND FROM THERE BEGAN A TURN BACK TO THE MEX VOR; AS REQUIRED BY THE 10-7C SPECIAL DEP PROC. I WAS THE PF; AND THE CAPT WORKED THE ECAM PROC. THE ECAM DIRECTED US TO SHUT DOWN THE #2 ENG; WHICH THE CAPT ACCOMPLISHED IN THE TURN. WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH THE MEX DEP CTLR; AND ENTERED HOLDING OVER THE MEX VOR. WE ACCOMPLISHED ALL REQUIRED PROCS; BRIEFED THE APCH (RWY 5R; VOR DME APCH); AND THEN FLEW DIRECT TO SMO TO BEGIN THE APCH. WE FLEW A FLAPS 3 DEGS; SINGLE ENG APCH TO RWY 5R; AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG AT 142200 LBS GROSS WT WITH AUTO BRAKES SET TO MEDIUM. AFTER A NORMAL LNDG AND TAXI TO SPOT XX; BRAKE TEMPS WERE 620 DEGS L/735 DEGS R. COOLING WAS IMMEDIATELY APPLIED; BUT THE R FUSE PLUGS FAILED AFTER APPROX 20 MINS GND TIME. AT THAT TIME; ALL PAX WERE REMOVED TO A MOBILE LOUNGE; WHICH TOOK THEM TO THE TERMINAL. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE ENG OVERTEMP WAS A LOWER HEMISPHERE BLEED ACTUATOR FAILURE. THE RPTR SAID AFTER RETURNING THE ENG WAS BORESCOPED AND THE BLEED ACTUATOR REPLACED. THE RPTR SAID THE ACFT WAS THEN MAINT FERRIED TO ZZZ; US; WHERE THE ENG WAS CHANGED.
