MIL FGT PLT WHILE HOLDING VFR OUTSIDE CLASS C AIRSPACE AWAITING AN IFR CLRNC FOR TRAINING; HAS ALTDEV AND IS ALERTED TO PROX TO THE CLASS C.
UPON ARRIVING AT LOUISVILLE; APCH CTL APPEARED TO BE BUSY WITH INBOUND TFC. I SAID I COULD HOLD NE OF THE FIELD UNTIL THE TFC FLOW EASED UP. I CANCELED IFR AND ORBITED NE OF SDF APPROX 15-20 NM; VFR. WX WAS CAVU. ATC ADVISED ME TO STAY ABOVE 3500 FT MSL UNTIL SOME TFC CLRED; THEN THAT RESTR WAS DELETED. I DSNDED TO APPROX 1000-1500 FT AGL AND MY AIRSPD WAS BTWN 210-250 KTS. XPONDER CODE WAS 1200 AND MODE C WAS ON DURING THE ORBIT. AT ONE POINT DURING MY ORBIT; ATC ADVISED ME I WAS APCHING CLASS C AIRSPACE TO THE SW. I MADE AN AGGRESSIVE L-HAND TURN BACK TO THE NE SO AS NOT TO PENETRATE BOWMAN'S CLASS C AIRSPACE. I DO NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY; BUT I PROBABLY SELECTED AFTER BURNER SO AS NOT TO GET TOO SLOW AND AS I WAS LOOKING OUTSIDE; I COULD NOT BE SURE OF MY EXACT ALT; BUT IT APPEARED TO BE ABOVE 1000 FT AGL. A SLIGHT ALTDEV MAY HAVE OCCURRED DURING THE TURN; AS I WAS HEADS OUTSIDE CLRING. ATC WAS FLT FOLLOWING ME THE ENTIRE TIME; AND WHEN THE TFC FLOW SEEMED TO SLOW DOWN; I ASKED TO PICK UP AN IFR CLRNC WHILE ON A NE HDG. AFTER CONTACTING DEP CTL; I WAS ADVISED OF A PHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT THE WATCH SUPVR UPON LNDG AT HOME BASE. I THOUGHT AT THE TIME THIS MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE CLASS C AIRSPACE ADVISORY OR THE POSSIBLE ALTDEV THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED DURING MY TURN. MORE ATTN SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID TO MY INSTS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS VFR AND I WAS TRYING TO CLR MY FLT PATH.
