Synopsis

AN ILL DISPOSED CAPT ASKS A DEADHEADING CAPT TO PERFORM HIS DUTIES AS PIC; PNF; DURING DSCNT INTO FLL. THE SUBSTITUTE CAPT WAS CITED AS BEING A 'CURRENT AND QUALIFIED PLT (L1011).' THE ILL CAPT SAT IN THE JUMP SEAT FOR THE DSCNT; APCH AND LNDG.

Narrative

FLT ATL-FLL. I SERVED AS CAPT AND PF OF THAT FLT. THE FO ON THE FLT WAS MR X. THE SO ON THE FLT WAS MR Y. CAPT Z; L1011 CURRENT AND QUALIFIED PLT; WAS ASSIGNED THE JUMP SEAT. A CABIN SEAT WAS AVAILABLE; AND AS CAPT; I ADVISED CAPT Z HE COULD OCCUPY A SEAT IN THE CABIN; AND HE DID. THE ACFT WAS AN L1011. FLT WAS SCHEDULED AND OPERATED FROM ATL TO FLL. THE TKOF; DEP; AND CLB PHASE OF FLT WERE UNEVENTFUL AND NORMAL. DURING CLB I BEGAN TO FEEL SOME INTESTINAL DISCOMFORT. UPON REACHING THE JAX AREA; IN CRUISE; THE DISCOMFORT BEGAN TO DEVELOP TO A DEG THAT I INFORMED THE CREW OF MY DISCOMFORT. AFTER DELIBERATION AND DISCUSSION WITH THE FO AND SO; I DETERMINED IT WAS MORE PRUDENT TO INSTRUCT THE FO TO ASSUME PF DUTIES. I WOULD THEN ASSUME PNF DUTIES. I THEN INSTRUCTED THE FO TO TAKE OVER PF DUTIES. LATER; DURING THE DSCNT; I DISCUSSED WITH THE CREW IT MAY BE MORE PRUDENT TO UTILIZE CAPT Z TO CONTINUE THE FLT. I THEN INFORMED CAPT Z OF MY DISCOMFORT AND HE VOLUNTEERED TO CONTINUE THE FLT AS PNF. I CONTINUED THE FLT IN THE JUMP SEAT. AT NO POINT IN TIME WAS I INCAPACITATED. FLT; DSCNT; APCH; LNDG AND TAXI WERE NORMAL AND WITHOUT INCIDENT.
