FLC OF MD80 SLIDES OFF RWY IN ICY CONDITIONS AT CMH.
AFTER A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG; ACFT HIT GLARE ICE ON RWY AND LOST ALL DIRECTIONAL CTL UNTIL NOSEWHEEL ENCOUNTERED UNPLOWED SNOW ON R SIDE OF RWY 28L AT CMH. ACFT EXITED RWY AT INTXN C3 AVOIDING AN ACR MD80 TAXIING E ON TXWY C. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER OUR JET AWAY FROM THE ACR JET AND COME TO A STOP HDG W ON TXWY C JUST PRIOR TO TXWY C4. EQUIP ARRIVED ACFT WAS INSPECTED THE GEAR PINS INSERTED AND I TAXIED BACK TO OUR GATE. NO INJURIES; NO DAMAGE TO THE ACFT. I WAS GIVEN POOR RWY CONDITIONS RPT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 425012: FREEZING RAIN WAS RPTED ALONG WITH 3 MI VISIBILITY AND A 400 FT CEILING. REVERSERS WERE STOWED IMMEDIATELY AND BRAKING WAS TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. DUTY DAY: 9 HR 47 MIN LONG DAY -- ALTHOUGH LEGAL. FAA; ACR ALL NOTIFIED AND FORMS FILLED OUT. FAA CLASSIFIED AS AN INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 425740: BRAKING ACTION WAS RPTED GOOD 15 MINS PRIOR BY CTL TWR. ATIS GAVE RWY 28L MU 69-73-69 402 THIN SLUSH. IT WAS A VERY BUSY EVENING AT ACR DISPATCH. I WAS OPERATING 18-20 ACFT IN IFR AND POOR RWY CONDITION THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST AS AN AREA OF FREEZING PRECIP WAS COVERING 1/3 OF THE EAST COAST FROM DSM TO BWI TO CLT. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP UP WITH FIELD CONDITIONS. OBVIOUSLY; THE RWY WAS NOT IN THE SHAPE THAT ATIS WAS RPTING. CONDITIONS CAN CHANGE RAPIDLY. MY OPINION ON THIS MISHAP IS THAT ARPT MGR SHOULD KEEP UP WITH FIELD CONDITIONS IN A BETTER WAY ON WX DAYS LIKE THAT NIGHT AT CMH.
