Synopsis

CPR JET FLC MISSES XING RESTR ON DSCNT IN ZOA AIRSPACE.

Narrative

ON DSCNT INTO OAK ON THE PANOCHE 2 ARR. WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR OF 10000 FT AND 250 KTS OVER BORED INTXN. I PROGRAMMED 10000 FT IN THE VERT NAV MODE OF THE FMS TO ARRIVE 2 MI PRIOR TO BORED INTXN AT THIS ALT. 4 MI PRIOR TO BORED INTXN; WE REALIZED THAT WE WERE TOO HIGH (16000 FT) TO MAKE THE XING RESTR AND DEPLOYED THE SPD BRAKES AND WENT TO IDLE THRUST. WE ARRIVED AT 10000 FT AND 250 KTS ABOUT 2-3 MI PAST BORED INTXN. CTR CALLED US AT POINT PRIOR TO BORED INTXN (5 MI) TO ASK IF WE WOULD BE AT 10000 FT BORED INTXN; AND WE REPLIED THAT WE COULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR. AFTER EVERYTHING SETTLED DOWN AND WE CHKED THE VERT NAV DISPLAY ON THE FMS; WE DISCOVERED THAT I HAD INADVERTENTLY PROGRAMMED THE 10000 FT RESTR AT 2 MI PRIOR TO THE NEXT FIX BEYOND BORED INTXN. THE FLT PLAN PAGE HAD LISTED BORED INTXN AS THE #7 WAYPOINT; BUT THE VERT NAV PAGE LISTED IT AS #4 WAYPOINT. I ENTERED #7 WAYPOINT IN MY HASTE WITHOUT DOUBLECHKING THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE ENTERED WAYPOINT ON THE VERT NAV PAGE AND THIS PROFILE CAUSED ME TO RELY ON A BOGUS DSCNT RATE TO MAKE THE XING RESTR. IN THE FUTURE; BOTH PLTS WILL BE XCHKING THE OLD FASHIONED WAY TO MAKE SURE THE ALT AND RATE OF DSCNT WILL ALLOW US TO MEET THE REQUIRED ALTS LONG BEFORE; AND NOT RELY ON THE VERT NAV PROFILE ALONE.
