Synopsis

MLG ERRONEOUSLY TAXIED INTO ILS CRITICAL AREA AT SEA.

Narrative

AFTER ENG START WE HAD AN ELECTRICAL RELAY SWITCHING PROB. OUR COMPANY MAINT CTL WAS NOTIFIED AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. I WAS ASKED BY GND CTL T MOVE THE ACFT IN THE ALLEY. THIS OCCURRED AT THE SAME TIME WE WERE TRYING TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROB. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROB IN OUR MEL BOOK; WE FELT WE COULD GO WITH AN ENRTE MEL WHICH MAINT CTL AGREED WITH. I THEN ASKED FOR TAXI CLRNC AND WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 16L; HOLD SHORT AT INTXN 1. AS WE APCHED INTXN Q; THE COMPANY CALLED WITH OUR NUMBERS. WITH A HIGH GROSS TKOF WT; WE ASKED GND FOR RWY 16R FULL LENGTH; AND WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 16R; BUT HOLD SHORT OF THE ILS CRITICAL AREA. AS WE APCHED THE CRITICAL AREA; THE COMPANY MAINT CTLR CALLED WITH THE MAINT AMENDED RELEASE WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOGBOOK ENTRY. AS THE COPLT WAS CONSUMED; HEAD DOWN; I WAS FURTHER DISTR ADJUSTING THE RADIO TO HEAR BOTH TWR AND COMPANY. I TAXIED ACROSS THE ILS CRITICAL HOLD LINE; STOPPING 20-30 FT IN THE ZONE. LOOKING BACK ON THIS PROB; I NOW FEEL IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO TAXI TO A HOLDING AREA; TAKE CARE OF THE PAPERWORK; SORT OUT THE PROB; AND THEN TAXI. BOTH PLTS MUST BE HEADS UP DURING THIS PHASE OF OP.
