Synopsis

B757-200 TAKES WRONG EXIT AT DTW CITING POOR SIGNS; LIGHTING; WITH NIGHT OPS AND COMMERCIAL CHART NOT UPDATED TO INDICATE HVY ARPT CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY.

Narrative

LANDED AT DTW RWY 21R AND CLRED RWY ON TXWY Y10 WHICH IS A 1-WAY EXIT FROM RWY 36 ONLY. NO DAMAGE DONE TO ACFT OR TXWY AND WITH MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION GOING ON AT DFW; TXWY SIGNS WERE VERY HARD TO SEE OR NOT EVEN MARKED AT ALL. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD TO EXIT ON TXWY N (WHICH IS NOW CLOSED RWY 9L/27R) BUT IT WASN'T MARKED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION; SO WITH LNDG TFC BEHIND ME; I EXITED OFF THE MOST USABLE; CLOSEST TXWY WHICH WAS TXWY Y10. LET'S UPDATE CHARTS TO SHOW CURRENT TXWYS AS WELL. COMMERCIAL CHART DIDN'T SHOW IT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATES THAT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT; THE NOTAMS AND CHARTS INDICATED THAT HVY CONSTRUCTION WAS TAKING PLACE; BUT WAS NOT VERY SPECIFIC AS TO THE PARTICULARS. AT THE PRESENT TIME; THE PAGE AND THE ACTUAL ARPT LIGHTING HAVE IMPROVED AND THE SIGNAGE IS SOMEWHAT CLRER. THE PAGE HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED AS OF THIS WRITING. THE RPTR EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER THE GENERAL LACK OF UP-TO-DATE INFO FIRST BY COMMERCIAL CHART AND THEN BY THE NOTAM FORMAT THAT CREWS ARE REQUIRED TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH PRIOR TO EACH ENTRY.
