WHILE ON VECTORS FOR VFR APCH TO DAB ARPT; PLT OF SMA CONFUSES EVB FOR DAB AND DSNDS INTO EVB TFC PATTERN. AFTER FINALLY LNDG AT DEST ARPT; RPTR IS CHASTISED BY TWR CTLR FOR 'EXITING RWY WITHOUT PERMISSION(?)'
THE PRIOR DAY I HAD BEEN ILL ALL DAY WITH A RESPIRATORY FLU. HOWEVER; I CONVINCED MYSELF THAT I HAD RECOVERED SUFFICIENTLY TO FLY MY MOONEY TO DAYTONA (DAB) FOR SCHEDULED REPAIRS. THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL UNTIL I APCHED DAB. THE FIRST CTLR VECTORED ME TO HDG 090 DEGS; THEN SHE VECTORED ME TO 060 DEGS AND HANDED ME OFF TO A SECOND APCH CTLR WHO CHANGED MY VECTOR BACK TO 090 DEGS. THE NEXT THING I HEARD FROM THIS CTLR HE DIRECTED ME TO TAKE AN IMMEDIATE TURN N TO ENTER THE DOWNWIND FOR RWY 25L. I COULD NOT FIND A RWY 25. I OBSERVED A CESSNA THAT WAS CLBING FROM THE ARPT WHICH WAS COMING DIRECTLY TOWARD ME. I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION WHILE APCH WAS TELLING ME THAT I WAS PROBABLY IN THE NEW SMYRNA ARPT TFC PATTERN. THE APCH CTLR TOLD ME THAT MY MODE C WAS RPTING BTWN 100-500 FT; HOWEVER; I NEVER WENT BELOW 800 FT. ALTHOUGH; 800 FT WAS BELOW THE 1500 FT ASSIGNED BY THE INITIAL CTLR. AFTER LNDG I TURNED OFF AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE TXWY WHICH GREATLY DISMAYED THE TWR CTLR WHO CHASTISED ME FOR TURNING OFF BEFORE I WAS INSTRUCTED TO. I LOST POSITIONAL AWARENESS WHICH CAUSED ME TO MISTAKE NEW SMYRNA FOR DAB WHEN I WAS VECTORED OVER THE FORMER. IN MY CONFUSION I DSNDED BELOW ASSIGNED ALT. AS FAR AS THE PROB WITH THE TWR CTLR GOES; I ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT YOU SHOULD DEPART A RWY ASAP AFTER LNDG. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO LOOK THAT UP.
