EVEN THOUGH CLRED BY GND CTL TO TAXI TO PARKING; PLT OF A MOONEY M20R STOPPED SHORT OF AN INTERSECTING RWY AFTER OBSERVING MIL A10 ACFT READY TO TOUCH DOWN ON THAT RWY.
I WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 31 AT BTL. I ROLLED TO THE END OF THE RWY AND TURNED R ONTO TXWY E. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY TWR TO CONTACT GND CTL UPON CLRING THE RWY. I CONTACTED GND CTL AND ADVISED THEM OF MY LOCATION AND REQUESTED TO TAXI BACK TO THE HANGAR (ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ARPT). GND CTL THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI TO PARKING; ISSUING NO HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. I WAS ABOUT 500 FT FROM THE INTERSECTING RWY (RWY 5/23) AND NOTICED 2 A-10'S ON SHORT FINAL WITH GEAR DOWN PREPARING TO LAND. I THEN IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND ADVISED GND CTL WE WOULD HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23 FOR THE LNDG A-10'S. GND CTL RESPONDED BY TELLING US TO HOLD SHORT AND ALSO STATED THAT THEY DIDN'T REALIZE WE WERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ARPT. AS IT TURNS OUT; THE A-10'S WERE CLRED TO LAND AND WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY THEY WERE LNDG ON. A GAR FOR THE A-10'S WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPROBABLE AS THEY WERE 10 FT FROM TOUCHDOWN. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE SIT WAS TOTALLY THE FAULT OF ATC. UPON CONTACTING GND; I ADVISED THEM OF MY LOCATION; SO THERE WAS NO EXCUSE FOR THEM THINKING I WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ARPT. COMPLACENCY MIGHT HAVE SET IN AS WELL. BATTLE CREEK IS A HIGH VOLUME TRAINING ARPT AND MANY OTHER ACFT HAD LANDED PRIOR TO US AND TAXIED OFF PRIOR TO REACHING RWY 5/23. THE SIT COULD BE PREVENTED IN THE FUTURE BY HAVING GND CTLRS VERIFY AN ACFT'S ACTUAL POS ON THE ARPT BEFORE ISSUING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS.
