Synopsis

A WDB ACR ENCOUNTERS TURB IN DSCNT WITH 4 PAX AND 2 FLT ATTENDANTS SUSTAINING INJURIES.

Narrative

FLYING INTO ORD FROM MSP AFTER DIVERTING TO MSP (DUE ORD CLOSING DUE WX) EARLIER FROM A DEN TO ORD FLT WE ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURB. WE WERE DSNDING FROM 17000 FT TO 13000 FT IN SMOOTH AIR. NO WX INDICATIONS ON RADAR IN OUR AREA; BUT COULD SEE RADAR WX INDICATIONS BEYOND ORD. WE COULD SEE THE LIGHTS OF CHICAGO AND LIGHTS ON THE GND IN FRONT OF US. SUDDENLY; WE EXPERIENCED A 1-2 SECOND 0-1 NEGATIVE 'G' SENSATION; FOLLOWED BY A 1-2 SECOND 1 - 1 1/2 POSITIVE 'G' SENSATION; THEN LIGHT TURB. ON THE CAPT'S COMMAND; I SEATED THE FLT ATTENDANTS BY THE PA AND HE PUT THE SEATBELT ON. WE THEN SAW SOME GREEN INDICATION ON THE RADAR AND THE CAPT DEVIATED SLIGHTLY R AND SHORTLY WE WERE IN SMOOTH AIR AGAIN. WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE AFT GALLEY FLT ATTENDANT THAT WE HAD 4 PAX AND 2 FLT ATTENDANTS INJURED AND THAT THEY WOULD REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTN WHEN WE GOT ON THE GND; DISPATCH WAS NOTIFIED BY ACARS OF THE ANKLE INJURIES AND OUR REQUEST FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. THE BAL OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE MET US AT THE GATE.
