MLG CREW ABORTED TKOF BECAUSE OF LNDG TFC.
WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 14R. I NOTICED JET TFC APCHING RWY 18. I THOUGHT IT LOOKED A LITTLE CLOSE FOR COMFORT. WHEN TURNING INTO POS FOR TKOF; AND XFERRING ACFT CTL OVER TO FO; WE WERE TOLD BY TWR CTL TO EXPEDITE TKOF. WHEN FO ADVANCED PWR TO THE ENGS; THE ENG LAGGED AND GOT AN AUTO SHUTDOWN OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYS THEN A BIG PRESSURE SURGE AS THE UNSPOOLED ENG CAME UP TO RPM. MY EARS BECAME FULL OF PRESSURE AND I WAS TRYING TO CLR THE DISCOMFORT. ACFT APCHING RWY 18 ASKED TWR CTL 'ARE YOU SURE THIS IS GOING TO WORK?' THAT STATEMENT GOT MY ATTN AND I LOOKED BACK OUT MY WINDOW TO SEE HOW CLOSE THE ACFT WAS. AT THIS TIME I WAS TRYING TO RELEASE PRESSURE FROM MY EARS. THE ACFT APCHING RWY 18 DIDN'T SEEM TO BE A THREAT; CONTINUING THE TKOF ROLL ALL I COULD HEAR FROM TWR CTL WAS THE SOUND OF THE MIKE OPEN AND WHAT SEEMED TO BE THE CTLR THINKING OUT LOUD. ALL THAT WAS COMING THROUGH MY HEADSET WAS AH-AH-AH-AH. AT THAT TIME I HEARD A WORD THAT SOUNDED LIKE EITHER CANCEL OR CLRNC. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT; I HARD HIM SAY FLT XXX CANCEL TKOF CLRNC! I THEN PERFORMED THE ABORT. OUR AIRSPD WAS 70 KTS AND OUR GND SPD WAS ABOUT 60 KTS. ACFT APCHING LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE RETURNED FOR TKOF AFTER CHKING OUR BRAKE LIMITATION CHART. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: THE HURRY-UP EFFECT. ATC WANTING US TO EXPEDITE TKOF DEP. PRESSURE SURGE FROM UNSPOOLED ENG. PROPER PHRASEOLOGY TO ABORT TKOF FROM ATC. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: PLTS TAKE YOUR TIME. SLOW DOWN AND DON'T BE TEMPTED TO HURRY FOR ATC. A FEW DAYS LATER; I INTERACTED WITH THE ATC FACILITY. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THEY WERE TRAINING A NEW CTLR AND HIS JUDGEMENT FOR THAT EVENT WAS WRONG AND DEBRIEFED THE VERBIAGE AND JUDGEMENT OF THE DECISION TO CLR US FOR TKOF.
