FLT ATTENDANT RPT; S80; DFW-SLC; FLT ATTENDANT INJURY ON TAXI; REMOVED FROM FLT.
I WAS IN THE FORWARD PART OF THE COACH CABIN DOING MY REQUIRED SAFETY COMPLIANCE CHKS AFTER THE SAFETY/DEMO PA WAS MADE; WHEN THE CAPT SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING CONES ON THE TXWY. I WAS THROWN BACKWARDS (I HAD BEEN FACING AFT AT ABOUT ROW 9 OF COACH CABIN) INTO THE BULKHEAD/CLOSET COMPARTMENT IN FRONT OF ROW 7. I REMEMBER SEEING BOTH MY ARMS AND LEGS OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND PARALLEL TO THE ACFT FLOOR; SO I FLEW BACKWARDS INTO THE BULKHEAD CLOSET. I TRIED TO GRAB THE SEAT BACKS TO HOLD ONTO AND STOP MYSELF; BUT IN THIS PROCESS I INADVERTENTLY CAUGHT A PAX'S SHIRT COLLAR (WHICH RIPPED) AND BADLY SCRATCHED HIS NECK AS I WENT DOWN THE BULKHEAD CORNER AND FELL SIDEWAYS; LNDG WITH MY FEET AND LEGS IN THE AIR AND ARMS AND HANDS STILL TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING TO STABILIZE ME. WE WENT BACK TO THE GATE AND PARAMEDICS CHKED ME OUT AND TOOK ME OFF THE FLT. CORRECTIVE ACTION NEEDED: 1) TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT WOULD BE SIMPLE -- MAKE IT POLICY THAT CREW MEMBERS DELIVER SAFETY PA'S BEFORE ACFT CAN PUSH BACK; INCLUDING TIME TO CHK FOR COMPLIANCE. THEN HAVE ALL FLT ATTENDANTS SEATED BEFORE THE ACFT IS MOVING/TAXIING. 2) FLT ATTENDANTS ALSO SHOULD HAVE TO BE SEATED ANYTIME THE SEATBELT SIGN IS ON IN THE AIR ALSO. THESE 2 ACTIONS WOULD GREATLY REDUCE INJURIES SUSTAINED ON DUTY.
