F900 FLC STRIKES DEER DURING TOUCHDOWN AT HTO.
JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN AT HTO (PWR WAS AT IDLE AND I WOULD PLACE US NO MORE THAN 5 FT AGL PRIOR TO MAIN GEAR TOUCHDOWN). AT THIS POINT WE WERE COMMITTED TO LAND ON THE 4200 FT LENGTH RWY. FROM THE L CORNER OF MY EYE; I SPOTTED AN OBJECT THAT I HAD ONLY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO RECOGNIZE THE SHAPE AND COLOR AS A DEER. AS QUICKLY AS IT APPEARED; IT WAS GONE. I WAS UNABLE TO JUDGE THE DISTANCE OF THE DEER FROM THE ACFT DUE TO THE LIMITED TIME I WAS GIVEN AND THE NEED FOR MY ATTN WITH THE LNDG ROLLOUT ON THE SHORTER RWY. THE ACFT SHOWED NO CTLABILITY DEGRADATION. BECAUSE OF THIS; I WAS UNCERTAIN IF WE DID IN FACT CONTACT THE DEER. THE ROLLOUT WAS UNEVENTFUL AND NORMAL. THE ACFT AFTER LNDG CHKLISTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED AND ALL SYS APPEARED NORMAL. OUR PAX WAS DISEMBARKED AND WE THEN INSPECTED FOR SIGNS OF IMPACT. IMPACT WAS MADE WITH THE DEER. THE CONTACT POINTS WERE THE L MAIN LNDG GEAR OUTBOARD WHEEL; L MAIN LNDG GEAR DOOR; AND L INBOARD FLAP FAIRING. NO OTHER CONTACT WAS OBSERVED UPON INSPECTION THAT NIGHT OR THE FOLLOWING MORNING ON THE ACFT. WE THEN DROVE TO THE RWY TO DETERMINE THE LOCALE OF THE DEER. THE BODY WAS FOUND RESTING APPROX 2000 FT DOWN RWY 28; R OF CTRLINE APPROX 15 FT. MARKINGS ON THE ANIMAL SHOWED CONTACT ON THE UPPER R HINDQUARTER TRAVELING LONGITUDINALLY ALONG THE R SIDE APPROX 3/4 OF ITS LENGTH. THE ANIMAL'S R REAR LEG WAS SEVERED AND THE BODY WAS CUT OPEN FROM THE R REAR LOWER INSIDE LEG JOINT TO THE CHEST CAVITY. THE LEG WAS LATER FOUND APPROX 200 FT FURTHER DOWN RWY 28. ISP FSS AND NEW YORK APCH CTL WERE NOTIFIED OF THE ANIMAL ON THE RWY. THEY SUBSEQUENTLY ISSUED A NOTAM FOR THE RWY CLOSURE. ISP FSS THEN NOTIFIED THE ARPT MGR; WHO PROMPTLY ARRIVED TO REMOVE THE CARCASS FROM THE RWY. NO OTHER RESTRS TO THE ARPT WERE NOTED AND OPS WERE ABLE TO RESUME THEREAFTER.
