Synopsis

MD80 FLC TAXIES PAST HOLD POINT AT BNA.

Narrative

CLRED TO TAXI RWY 31 VIA TXWY T4; L; HOLD SHORT RWY 31 APCH. FO GETTING TPS; HEAD DOWN; AND I DIDN'T SEE SIGN. GND TOLD US TO STOP AND THAT WE HAD PASSED TO HOLD POINT. ACFT ON FINAL WAS TOLD TO DO 360 DEG TURN WHILE WE TAXIED OUT ON RWY 31 DOWN TO TXWY L6 AND CLRED BACK TO THE HOLD LINE. WX WAS 5000 FT; 5 MI VISIBILITY. ACFT ON FINAL REQUESTED VISUAL APCH. TWR SAID HE COULD NOT GRANT IT WITH US PAST THE APCH HOLD LINE. CAME BACK AROUND THE SECOND TIME; AND I DID SEE THE SIGN. IT IS ON THE R SIDE OF TXWY JUST PAST THE L SPLIT BTWN RWY 20L AND RWY 31. NO SIGN ON L SIDE. I WAS ALSO SURPRISED TO FIND THE LINE SO FAR BACK FROM THE RWY. I CALLED THE BNA TWR ON THE PHONE AFTER WE ARRIVED AT LGA AND ASKED THEM WHY NO VISUALS TO RWY 31 SINCE THE WX WAS BETTER THAN THE USUAL 800 FT AND 2 MI ILS PROTECTION CRITERIA. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS PROC AT BNA. NONETHELESS; STILL MY FAULT FOR NOT SEEING THE SIGN; BUT I WAS STILL CONCENTRATING ON GETTING THE RIGHT TXWY. WOULD BE NICE IF BNA COULD PUT A SIGN ON THE L SIDE OF TXWY. ALSO GND TOLD US WE WERE SECOND COMPANY JET TO MISS THE LINE THIS MORNING.
