Narrative

ON OCT/XA/99 WE BEGAN THE TAXI OUT FOR DEP FOR FLT WITH THE NORMAL CAPT AND FO AND A JUMP SEATER FROM ACR X. AS SOON AS WE STARTED TAXIING; WE NOTICED THAT MY (THE CAPT'S) INTERCOM WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I COULD HEAR ATC AND THE FO NORMALLY; BUT NEITHER I NOR THE FO COULD HEAR ME TALK THROUGH MY HEADSET. I HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROB ON THIS ACFT BEFORE AND WAS CONFIDENT THE PROB WOULD WORK ITSELF OUT; AS IT HAD ON THE PREVIOUS OCCASION. I CHKED MY HEADSET CONNECTIONS AND THE AUDIO PANEL CTLS AND FOUND THEM ALL TO BE NORMAL. WE LEFT 1 EAR UNCOVERED BY OUR HEADSETS; AND ACCOMPLISHED THE TAXI AND BEFORE TKOF CHKLISTS WITHOUT ANY PROBS HEARING EACH OTHER. WHEN WE REACHED THE END OF THE TXWY. I TOLD THE FO I WAS READY FOR DEP. HE SAID HE WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THE PROB. I SAID THAT I HAD THIS PROB BEFORE AND THAT IT WOULD WORK ITSELF OUT AS SOON AS WE WERE ON OUR WAY. HE SAID HE WAS STILL NOT COMFORTABLE AND WAS NOT GOING. I SAID I KNOW THIS ACFT AND I WAS EXTREMELY CONFIDENT IT WOULD WORK FINE ONCE WE WERE UNDER WAY. I ALSO SAID THAT I TOOK HIS RECOMMENDATION UNDER ADVISEMENT AND WAS MAKING THE DECISION TO GO. I NOTIFIED ATC WE WERE READY FOR DEP AND TAXIED ONTO THE RWY. AS SOON AS I PUSHED THE PWR LEVERS FORWARD FOR DEP; MY INTERCOM BEGAN WORKING NORMALLY. THE TKOF WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH ME AS THE PF AND THE FO MAKING ALL REQUIRED CALLS; EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE FO'S TURN TO FLY. THE FLT WAS COMPLETED TO DENVER WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
