HELI PLT LANDS AT MIL FIELD WITHOUT CLRNC.
10 MI OUTSIDE OF SHREVEPORT; CALLED TWR (DTL); GAVE THEM MY INTENTIONS. I INDICATED WE WERE COMING IN FOR OVERNIGHT STAY TO GO TO LCL CASINOS. THEY GAVE ME SQUAWK CODE. I IDENTED AND THEY RECOGNIZED. THEY INDICATED THAT A LCL MUNICIPAL ARPT WAS CLOSER. I REQUESTED THEM TO VECTOR ME TO THIS ARPT. THEY INDICATED 3 MI DIRECTLY E OR DEAD AHEAD ON OUR CURRENT COURSE. I ASKED FOR FREQ. THEY INDICATED 123.00. I CALLED THIS FREQ WITHOUT RESPONSE ON 3 OCCASIONS. I TUNED BACK TO SHREVEPORT TO ASK WHY NO ANSWER. THEY EXPLAINED THIS IS UNCTLED ARPT. I TUNED BACK TO 123.00 AND ANNOUNCED MY DOWNWIND TO TFC. IMMEDIATELY ON DOWNWIND LEG; I BEGAN TO NOTICE MANY B52 BOMBERS PARKED AND NO CIVILIAN ACFT IN SIGHT. I COULD NOT RAISE ANYONE ON THE RADIO AND WAS UNABLE TO CHK MAP OR GPS WHILE OVER A POPULATED AREA (NEEDING BOTH HANDS TO MAINTAIN FULL CTL OF THE ACFT AT LOW ALT. I LANDED IN WIDE OPEN AREA IN PLAIN SITE IN FRONT OF THE CTL TWR. AFTER SITTING DOWN; I TUNED INTO THE GPS AND LOOKED AT MAP TO FIND LOCATION WAS BARKSDALE AFB. I GOT THEIR FREQ AND CALLED THE TWR TO EXPLAIN OUR SIT. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD. TWR THEN CAME BACK ON AND SAID THAT WE SHOULD SHUT DOWN; THAT IT WAS OUT OF HER CTL AND UP TO SECURITY. WE WERE THEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BEING SEARCHED; HANDCUFFED AND ACFT SEARCHED BY DOGS. WE REMAINED SEPARATED IN INTERROGATION FOR 3 HRS BEFORE RELEASE. OUR STORIES ALL MATCHED PER THE INVESTIGATORS WHOM CONFIRMED AND AGREED WE DID THE RIGHT THING. HOPEFULLY; THE CTLRS CAN UTILIZE THIS INFO TO REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE TO THE PLT WHO IS DEPENDING ON ACCURATE INFO TO BE CONVEYED.
