3 ACFT DEAL WITH WINDSHEAR AT MHT.

Narrative

RECEIVED COMPLETE WX BRIEFING INCLUDING PIREPS PRIOR TO TKOF. ACFT (DC9) LNDG ON SAME RWY (RWY 35) RPTED +/-10 KTS AT SEVERAL ALTS BELOW 1000 FT AGL. STRONG COLD FRONT HAD PASSED THROUGH DURING THE NIGHT ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW TO THE N. GUSTY WINDS AND MODERATE WITH A POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE TURB BELOW 8000 FT MSL WAS FORECAST. INITIAL ALT WAS 3000 FT AND I REQUESTED 10000 FT FOR A MAX CLB TO SMOOTH AIR ASAP. DEP BRIEFING WAS EXTENSIVE INCLUDING THE POSSIBILITY OF WINDSHEAR. MAX TKOF THRUST; FLAPS 5 DEGS; GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 1.4 EPR PRIOR TO RELEASE OF BRAKES; REDUCED V1 (7001 FT RWY). DELAYED ROTATION AND RECOVERY PROCS. TKOF ROLL WAS SMOOTH AS WAS ROTATION. JUST AS THE MAINS CLRED THE RWY; THE RED WINDSHEAR ANNUNCIATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED (YELLOW NEVER ILLUMINATED) AND THE AURAL 'WINDSHEAR' WARNING WAS HEARD. GREATER THAN 20 KTS LOSS IN AIRSPD WAS NOTED. IN STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH PRESCRIBED RECOVERY TECHNIQUE; FIREWALL THRUST WAS APPLIED; THE NOSE WAS PITCHED UP TO APPROX 20 DEGS AND THE ACFT REMAINED IN EXISTING CONFIGN UNTIL SUCH TIME WHEN A GREATER THAN 2000 FPM; STEADY RATE OF CLB WAS ATTAINED. CLEAN-UP AND PWR REDUCTION THEN FOLLOWED. A COMPLETE PIREP WAS XMITTED AFTER ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETE AND ENG OP WAS ASSESSED.
