Synopsis

TRAINING FLT DOES A TOUCH-AND-GO WHEN THE CLRNC WAS TO LAND AT SRQ; FL.

Narrative

I WAS INSTRUCTING A FOREIGN STUDENT WITH BROKEN ENGLISH. WE WERE HOLDING OVER THE SARASOTA VOR WHEN I LET HIM TAKE THE RADIOS TO ASK FOR A TOUCH-AND-GO AT SRQ. HE RESPONDED TO ANOTHER ACFT'S RADIO CALL FROM TPA APCH AND REPEATED THE WRONG RWY NUMBER FROM SRQ TWR. IN THE PROCESS OF BEING HANDED OFF TO SRQ TWR; WE WERE 'CLRED TO LAND.' I WAS CAREFULLY MONITORING HIS RADIO PROCS MAKING SURE HE RESPONDED CORRECTLY. HE REPEATED THE CLRNC CORRECTLY; BUT WE BOTH HAD 'TOUCH-AND-GO' IN OUR MIND. WE PROCEEDED TO PERFORM A TOUCH-AND-GO ON RWY 4 AT SRQ AROUND XA40 IN THE MORNING. UPON TKOF; THE CTLR ASKED OUR INTENTIONS AND MY STUDENT RESPONDED INCORRECTLY AGAIN. THE CTLR BECAME SOMEWHAT UPSET AND QUESTIONED THE FACT THAT WE WERE AIRBORNE HAVING RECEIVED A CLRNC TO 'ALDN.' HE EXPLAINED HE HAD TFC IN THE AREA AND GAVE US A 250 DEG VECTOR. WE THEN WENT TO VENICE. MY STUDENT WAS UNAWARE OF THE PROB; SO A REVIEW OF GND SCHOOL OCCURRED IN POSTFLT. I REALIZED HOW I MAY HAVE BECOME A LITTLE COMPLACENT AND MUST LISTEN MORE CAREFULLY TO ATC AND NOT JUST MY STUDENT.
