Synopsis

AIRBUS ON APCH TO SNA; CA; HAD 3 SEPARATE TCASII ADVISORS -- ONE GAR AND REFUSED A VISUAL APCH ACCOUNT LOW VISIBILITY IN HAZE.

Narrative

ON FEB/XA/00 WHILE FLYING AN AIRBUS ON APCH TO RWY 19R TO SNA; WE ENCOUNTERED 2 RADAR ADVISORIES WHILE BEING VECTORED DOWNWIND FOR VISUAL APCH. DURING THE FIRST RA AT APPROX 7 MI NW OF FIELD AT 5000 FT; OUR TCASII DIRECTED A CLB FOR SEPARATION. TCASII TFC PASSED UNDER US BY 500 FT. 2 MINS LATER; WE RESPONDED TO ANOTHER TCASII; DIRECTING A DSCNT. SECOND TCASII TFC PASSED OVER US BY 700 FT. ONCE WE WERE CLR OF BOTH RA'S TFC; CTLR WAS ADVISED OF OUR ALTDEVS. WE WERE CLRED BY TWR TO TURN R TO A HDG OF 090 DEGS AT 4000 FT AND CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 19R AT SNA. HOWEVER; DUE TO TIME OF DAY; THE SUN AND HAZE PRECLUDED A VISUAL REF TO RWY 19R. ADDITIONALLY; WE WERE TURNED BY CTLR TOO EARLY AND TOO HIGH TO AFFECT A STABILIZED DSCNT/APCH. WE INITIATED A GAR AT APPROX 1800 FT AGL AT 2.5 MI FROM RWY. DURING THE GAR; WHILE CLBING TO 3000 FT; WE RECEIVED A TFC ALERT FROM TCASII. THE TFC WAS SEEN ABOVE AND TO THE L OF US; APPROX 1000-2000 FT ABOVE. WE RESPONDED TO TFC ALERT AND INITIATED A NOSE LOW DSCNT TO AVOID TFC. TWR WAS NOTIFIED OF ALTDEV. IN RESPONSE TO TFC CONFLICT; WE OVERSPD FLAP SPD BY 10 KTS. TWR WAS ADVISED ABOUT TFC. TWR'S RESPONSE WAS APOLOGETIC. WE ELECTED FULL ILS TO RWY 19R. LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. ACFT MAINT WAS NOTIFIED. COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT APCH CONFLICTS AND FLAP OVERSPD. ACFT RETURNED TO SVC FOLLOWING INSPECTION OF FLAPS. NO OTHER ACTION TAKEN.
