Synopsis

A LIGHT TURBOPROP IN CRUISE AT 17000 FT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED; DUE TO #2 ENG FIRE WARNING; CAUSED BY A DAMAGED ENG FIRE SENSING LOOP.

Narrative

AT CRUISE; 17000 FT; GOT A FIRE INDICATION ON THE R ENG. PERFORMED MEMORY ITEMS. NOTIFIED ATC AND DECLARED AN EMER. NOTIFIED FLT ATTENDANT WITH AN ETA OF 15 MINS AND AN EMER EVAC AFTER AN EMER LNDG. PERFORMED ENG FIRE CHKLIST AND PROCEEDED TO MANSFIELD; OH. WE TALKED TO DISPATCH AND TOLD THEM WE WERE DIVERTING TO MANSFIELD. AFTER A REVIEW OF THE ARPT; WE DECIDED TO CHANGE OUR DIVERSION ARPT TO CAK. WE PERFORMED OUR 1 ENG INOP DSCNT CHK AND DECIDED RWY 1 WAS BEST FOR WINDS AND DISTANCE. PERFORMED OUR APCH CHK AND WERE VECTORED ONTO THE ILS RWY 1 APCH. WE COMPLETED THE LNDG CHK AND MADE A SINGLE ENG LNDG TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE RWY. ALL THE FIRE EQUIP MET US ON THE RWY AND SPRAYED US WITH FOAM. WE COMMENCED THE EMER EVAC AND GOT ALL THE PAX OUT SAFELY TO THE FAR LEFT OF THE ACFT. NO PAX INJURIES WERE NOTICED OR RPTED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 473369: MAINT LOOKED AT THE FIRE LOOP AFTERWARDS AND DISCOVERED A CHIP. IT LOOKS LIKE THE FIRE LOOP WAS CHAFING AGAINST SOME ENG PARTS AND MAY HAVE GIVEN US A FAULTY INDICATION. WE NEVER SAW FLAMES; BUT STILL DID NOT WANT TO 'QUESTION' THE LIGHT'S VALIDITY.
