AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED ON A MAINT FERRY FLT IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH OPEN AND UNANSWERED LOG AND TECHNICIANS WRITE-UPS.
ACFT AN MD80 XYZ UPON LNDG AT ZZZ; WENT FULLY OFF RWY AND TRAVELED APPROX 2500 FT PARALLEL TO RWY 4 FT R OF RWY BEFORE GETTING BACK ONTO RWY AND TAXIING TO GATE WITH PAX. FLT ABC ON JUN/THU/00. AS CREW CHIEF; I AND 2 OTHER MECHS AND AN INSPECTOR; ALL FROM XXX ACR MAINT WERE DISPATCHED TO ZZZ TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE TO ACFT. UPON COMPLETION OF ALL MAINT WORK; EXCEPT FOR ENG APCH IDLE TO TKOF PWR; A TIRE PRESSURE (TP) CHK WHICH REQUIRED LOGBOOK ENTRY OF MAINT RELEASE AND AIRWORTHINESS AND 3 OTHER MINOR OPEN ITEMS; I CONTACTED WXY WVWV; XZX MAINT COORDINATOR WHO CONFERENCE CALLED IN CBA MPMP; XZX ENGINEER. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT THESE OPEN ITEMS AND ASKED FOR AUTH TO DEFER THEM AND NOT LEAVE THESE ITEMS OPEN UPON LEAVING ZZZ. I WAS TOLD THE ACFT WOULD BE POS FERRIED TO XXX AND TO BRING MY MAINT PAPERWORK WITH OPEN ITEMS WITH ME ON THE FERRY FLT BACK TO XXX WHICH I DID; RELUCTANTLY. UPON ARRIVING IN XXX I HAD A DEBRIEFING WITH THE MAINT MGR IN XXX WHO THEN TOLD ME IT WAS ILLEGAL FOR THE ACFT TO FLY WITH OPEN MAINT ITEMS. I WAS AND AM UPSET ABOUT BEING MISLED BY THE XZX COORDINATOR WHO HAS MANY YRS EXPERIENCE AT THAT JOB; AND HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THE AUTH TO HELP ME CLOSE OUT THE PAPERWORK PROPERLY.
