C172 TRAINEE ON FIRST SOLO FLT HAD NMAC AT COS.
AROUND XA30 JUN/XA/00; I WAS ON FINAL DURING MY FIRST SOLO FOR A LNDG ON RWY 17R IN ACFT X AND I HEARD SOMEBODY SAY SOMETHING ABOUT A SHORT APCH; AND THEN A SECOND LATER I SAW A PLANE COME OUT FROM 'UNDERNEATH' ME AND PARTIALLY FROM THE L; SO I FIGURED IT WAS THE ACFT THAT WAS ON SHORT APCH. THEN I HEARD SOMEBODY SAY 'GO AROUND' FROM THE TWR; SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE ME; AND THEN TWR SAID 'ACFT X STILL CLR TO LAND' OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT; SO I KEPT MY DSCNT A LITTLE HIGH OF RWY 17R; AND THEN I HIT SOME TURB AND MY INSTRUCTOR PLT TOLD ME LATER HE THOUGHT IT WAS 'PROP WASH.' IT LIFTED ME UP AND THEN DUMPED ME DOWN TO THE R AND I FELT LIKE I WAS IN A SPIN DOWN AND TO THE R AND ALMOST INVERTED; SO I PANICKED FOR A SECOND AND THEN HIT FULL L RUDDER AND IT STRAIGHTENED ME OUT AND I TOLD TWR I WAS ON THE GAR. THEY SAID I WAS STILL CLR TO LAND BUT I JUST SAID I'M STILL GOING AROUND BECAUSE I WAS TO THE R OF THE RWY AND WAS NOT PREPARED TO LAND AT ALL. I WENT AROUND AND AS I WAS CLBING OUT AND ENTERING R TFC FOR RWY 17R. I HEARD PEOPLE TALKING BACK AND FORTH (WHICH I ASSUMED TO BE TWR WITH THE PLANE THAT WAS NEAR ME) AND THEY SAID THAT HE NEEDED TO LAND AND THEN CALL THE TWR TO TALK IT OVER. I HEARD THE OTHER PLANE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT 'NOT BEING SWITCHED OVER TO TWR' OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT; SO THAT IS WHY WE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE OTHER PLANE UNTIL THEY WERE CLOSE TO THE RWY ON THEIR SHORT APCH.
