A C172 PVT PLT IS CALLED BACK TO THE RAMP TO TALK WITH TWR CTLR AFTER XING ACTIVE RWY 1. RPTR HAD DONE A HIGH SPD TAXI ON RWY 06-24 WHILE ADJUSTING HIS HEADING INDICATOR AT TEB; NJ.
GND INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI ON AN INACTIVE RWY (6/24) ENRTE TO MY TKOF INTXN FOR RWY 1 AT TXWY K. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT AT THE INTXN OF THE ACTIVE RWY; WHICH I UNDERSTOOD AND READ BACK (THAT IS; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 1 WHILE ON RWY 6). DURING MY TAXI; I APCHED THE INTXN MUCH MORE QUICKLY THAN I ANTICIPATED AND WHEN I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW; HAD CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT POS. AS I HAD VIOLATED AND DIDN'T FEEL I COULD STOP PRIOR TO BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTXN; I RADIOED TO GND THAT I HAD INCURRED THE RWY AND WOULD CONTINUE TO TAXI IMMEDIATELY THROUGH TO THE OPPOSITE HOLD SHORT POS. BEING SAFELY ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE; GND CTL TAXIED ME BACK TO THE FBO AND INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL THE TWR. I BELIEVE I VIOLATED THE RWY BECAUSE MY ATTN DURING TAXI WAS MOMENTARILY DIVERTED INSIDE THE ACFT TO FIX MY HEADING INDICATOR. ALSO; BECAUSE I WAS TAXIING ON A RWY; I WAS TAXIING SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN NORMAL. I WAS NOT PREPARED TO PROPERLY HOLD SHORT AT THE REQUIRED LOCATION. A POSSIBLE THIRD CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS MY COMFORT LEVEL WITH THE ARPT. I HAD TRAINED AND SPENT MANY HRS TAXIING AT THIS ARPT. AS A RESULT; I MIGHT HAVE NOT BEEN KEEPING MYSELF AS VIGILANT AS I SHOULD HAVE BEEN. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL NOT ALLOW ACFT ACTIVITIES DISTRACT ME FROM FOCUSING OUTSIDE ON TAXI OPS. ALSO; DESPITE A TEMPTATION TO TAXI FASTER ON A WIDE; LARGE; RWY SELF CTL NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED TO KEEP A NORMAL TAXI SPD.
