B757 CREW HAD HIGH OIL TEMP AND LOW OIL QUANTITY IN ZMP CLASS A.
ACR FLT ABC DTW-SFO. WHEN ACCEPTING ACFT IN DTW; HAD OPEN MAINT WRITE-UP REGARDING LOW OIL QUANTITY AND HIGH OIL TEMP; (AMBER BAND). MAINT ADDED SEVERAL QUARTS TO THE ENG AND; WHEN QUERIED BY FLC; SAID THERE WERE NO APPARENT LEAKS AND THAT OIL CONSUMPTION WAS 'WITHIN LIMITS' PER MAINT CTL. ABOUT 1 HR 20 MINS INTO FLT; THE L ENG OIL TEMP INDICATOR WENT YELLOW; THEN RED. FLC SHUT DOWN THE ENG AFTER DECLARING AN EMER AND BEGAN DIVERT TO NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT; MSP. THE OIL QUANTITY READ A VERY HIGH 23 QUARTS. FOLLOWED COMPANY AND COCKPIT OPERATING MANUAL PROCS. MADE UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT MSP. WROTE UP DISCREPANCY IN ACFT LOGBOOK AND RELEASED ACFT TO COMPANY MAINT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 480927: ABOUT 1 HR AND 20 MINS INTO ACR FLT ABC FROM DTW TO SFO; AN AMBER OIL TEMP HIGH INDICATION FOR THE L ENG CAME ON EICAS. PWR WAS REDUCED ON THE ENG AS PER COMPANY MANUAL AND REQUEST WAS MADE TO DIVERT TO MSP AND FOR LOWER ALT. EICAS MESSAGE WENT RED AND ENG WAS SHUT DOWN; WITH EMER DECLARED AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG MADE AT MSP. ON PERVIOUS FLT THAT DAY; THIS ACFT HAD LOST 6 QUARTS OF OIL; AS PER LOGBOOK; ON 1 LEG. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE LEAKAGE SEEN ON WALKAROUND. MAINT ADDED 9 QUARTS OF OIL AT DTW PRIOR TO FLT. ENG WAS NOT PUT ON OIL MONITOR AND MAINT CTL TOLD MECH WE WERE GOOD TO GO.
