Synopsis

A CL65 FLC HAD TO RETURN LAND WITH DISPLACED AILERONS AT CVG; KY.

Narrative

DURING THE FLT GSP-CVG THIS CREW OBSERVED THE ILLUMINATION OF THE AILERON COMPARATOR. WE CALLED AVIONICS IN THE BELIEF THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE AUTOPLT. A MAINT WRITE-UP WAS MADE; AND THE AUTOPLT WAS DEFERRED BY AVIONICS. ENRTE TO CLT ON THE NEXT LEG; WE NOTICED THAT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF AILERON TRIM WAS REQUIRED TO HOLD LEVEL FLT. WE RETURNED TO CVG AND MADE A NEW WRITE-UP FOR MAINT TO REFLECT THIS DISCREPANCY. WE THEN LEFT THE ACFT WITH MAINT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 484129: A CAUTION MESSAGE INDICATING L WING DOWN OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN MAKING L HAND TURNS WITH THE AUTOPLT ENGAGED. WE FOLLOWED THE PROCS IN THE QRH WHICH DIRECTED US TO DISCONNECT THE AUTOPLT; RETRIM THE ACFT; AND THEN REENGAGE THE AUTOPLT. THIS PROB OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES SO IT WAS WRITTEN UP UPON ARR AT CVG. MAINT DEFERRED THE AUTOPLT AND STATED TO SEE HOW THE AIRPLANE FLIES WITHOUT THE AUTOPLT. ON THE NEXT FLT ENRTE TO CLT; EXCESSIVE L AILERON TRIM WAS NEEDED TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE FROM ROLLING R. MAINT WAS CONSULTED AND WE RETURNED TO CVG. MAINT LATER FOUND THE R AILERON HAD SLOP WITH THE HYDS ON (1/8 INCH PLAY).
