Synopsis

AN MD-S80 FLC EXPERIENCED A FRUSTRATING DAY AT DFW; FIRST WITH A MAINT DELAY AND THEN A LOAD PLANNER'S RUDENESS AND OR FEEBLE ATTEMPT AT A JOKE.

Narrative

APPROX 10 MINS AFTER SCHEDULED DEP; STILL ON A MAINT DELAY WITH NO OUT TIME. LOAD CLOSEOUT APPEARED ON THE ACRS PRINTER. THE CLOSEOUT WAS VALID IN ALL RESPECTS. AFTER EXTENSIVE DELAYS; A NEW AIRPLANE; THEN BACK TO THE ORIGINAL ACFT; THE FLT DEPARTED AT XA54L. AT NO TIME WAS CARGO OFFLOADED OR PAX ADDED OR DELETED. APPROX 15 MINS AFTER TKOF; A MESSAGE APPEARED WITH THE COMMENT; 'ARE YOU PERHAPS INTERESTED IN YOUR ACTUAL WTS...?' SECONDS LATER; LOAD CLOSEOUT APPEARED WITH THE COMMENT; 'CLOSEOUT SENT AFTER TKOF.' IT IS NOTED IN THE HEADER LINE THAT THIS SECOND CLOSEOUT IS CONSIDERED THE SECOND ONE. IF THAT IS CORRECT; THEN AN ORIGINAL LOAD CLOSEOUT MUST HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND VALID. A PAX COUNT WAS DONE; SHOWING THE SECOND LOAD CLOSEOUT WAS IN ERROR BY 1 PERSON. TKOF WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH A CURRENT AND VALID LOAD CLOSEOUT. COPIES CAN BE FURNISHED ON REQUEST. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 486910: MECH ON BOARD AT DEP TIME WORKING A MAINT PROB. WHILE STILL AT GATE AND WITHOUT REQUEST; RECEIVED LOAD CLOSEOUT RVSN 00 AT XA05L; XA05Z. THIS SHOWED 102 PAX. INITIAL MAINT ACTIONS FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROB AND DEP WAS RESCHEDULED TO XA05L. AFTER AN ADDITIONAL DELAY; THE ACFT WAS TO BE TAKEN OUT OF SVC. WHILE WAITING FOR SUBSTITUTE EQUIP TO ARRIVE; MAINT CONTINUED TO WORK THE PROB; AND PAX AND CARGO WERE KEPT ON BOARD. MAINT CORRECTED THE PROB; AND WE RECEIVED A RE-RELEASE FROM DISPATCH AT XA45Z TO REFLECT DISPATCH WITH THE ORIGINAL EQUIP. PURSER RPTED 102 PAX ON BOARD; AND SINCE THIS AGREED WITH OUR LOAD CLOSEOUT; WE USED THIS CLOSEOUT FOR OUR TKOF PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS. ON INITIAL CLBOUT WE RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM LOAD CTL THAT READ; 'ARE YOU PERHAPS INTERESTED IN A CLOSEOUT REFLECTING YOUR ACTUAL WTS...?' WE TOOK OFF CONVINCED THAT CLOSEOUT RVSN 00 WAS A VALID CLOSEOUT FOR OUR ACFT AND FLT. APPARENTLY LOAD CTL HAD OPINIONS TO THE CONTRARY.
