Synopsis

TFC CONFLICT AND NEAR P-56 INCURSION WHEN 2 ACFT DEPART DCA; VA; FROM DIFFERENT RWYS.

Narrative

I WAS FLYING A CHALLENGER 604. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 33 AT DCA; IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A B727 ON RWY 36. RIGHT AFTER TKOF WE WERE IN LOOSE FORMATION WITH THE B727 WHO TURNED TO ABOUT A 330 DEG HDG TO FOLLOW THE RIVER OUT. WE ALSO HAD A CLRNC TO FOLLOW THE RIVER OUT TO THE NW. SHORTLY AFTER TKOF (I CAN'T REMEMBER IF IT WAS DEP OR TWR) WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO MAKE A HARD R TURN AND GET IN BEHIND THE B727 AND FOLLOW THE RIVER. I MADE THE TURN; (ABOUT 90 DEGS TO THE R) BUT I CLOSED THE GAP ON THE B727. NOW I AM DIRECTLY OVER THE RIVER; HEADING NE; WITH THE B727 CLOSE IN FRONT OF ME FLYING NW OUT THE RIVER. I DELAYED MY IMMEDIATE TURN BACK TO THE NW SO AS NOT TO CONFLICT WITH THE B727. I WAS ALSO VERY CONCERNED WITH HIS CLBOUT WAKE TURB. HE WAS ABOUT 1 1/2 MI AHEAD OF US. WE HAD HIM VISUAL AND ON TCASII. DUE TO MY DELAY IN TURNING BACK UP THE RIVER; I MAY HAVE VIOLATED P-56 ON THE E SIDE OF THE RIVER. DEP NOW TOLD ME TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE L TURN TO 290 DEGS TO KEEP ME CLR OF P-56 AND TO GIVE US SPACING ON THE B727. HE STATED HE UNDERSTOOD WE WERE PUT IN A PRECARIOUS SIT; BUT DIDN'T WANT US IN P-56. I FELT MY MANEUVERING WAS NECESSARY FOR SAFE SPACING BEHIND. I BELIEVE THE TWR SHOULD NOT HAVE ISSUED US A RAPID CLRNC BEHIND THE B727 IN WHICH HE WOULD BE TURNING TO APPROX OUR HEADING. I DID NOT REALIZE HE WAS GOING OUT THE RIVER DEP WITH US.
